Job Description

The Senior Long-Range Planner will analyze census, land use, housing, and real estate data as a basis for community planning, and prepares maps, charts, and other graphics to make informed planning decisions. This position will be responsible for identifying the planning needs in various neighborhoods and develops short-term and long-term strategies to enhance quality of life in the neighborhoods. The Long-Range Planner will also monitor theprogress of Community Work Program outlines in Gwinnett's Unified Plan.

Essential Duties

  • Participates in the preparation and development of small area plans, topical studies, grant applications and other planning efforts to support the implementation of Gwinnett's Unified Plan.

  • Prepares, administers, and implements local, regional, state, and federal grant programs including the Livable Centers Initiative, the Community Development Block Grant program, and the mTAP program.

  • Facilitates community engagement activities, such as community meetings, workshops, pop-up events, and charrettes to gather community input and promote transparency in the planning process. Tasks include but are not limited to developing agendas, managing logistics, and creating meeting materials.

  • Serves as a liaison between the County, regional and local stakeholders, and planning partners.

  • Collaborates with community stakeholders, including civic associations, business groups, neighborhood groups, community members, and other relevant organizations to present information on planning initiatives, gather input and ensure efficient implementation of various planning strategies and policies.

  • Develops a working knowledge of various County departments that provide services to the community, and communicates updates on County plans, projects, initiatives, and services to the community.

  • Collaborates with relevant County departments to ensure the integration of planning initiatives with other governmental functions, such as transportation and infrastructure development.

Public Speaking Duties

  • Facilitates community engagement activities, such as community meetings, workshops, and pop-up events.

Grade

The grade for this position is C43(1). Salary will be dependent on education and experience.

Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or Planning AND

  • Four years of planning experience

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design/Architecture, Public Administration, Business Administration
  • AICP certification or desire acquire within 12 months

The 14 departments that make up the executive side are Police Services, Fire and Emergency Services, Corrections, Communications, Support Services, Financial Services, Community Services, Human Resources, Information Technology Services, Law, Planning and Development, Water Resources, Child Advocacy & Juvenile Services, and Transportation. Each department is run by a director who is charged with managing operations in a manner which stresses the County's values.

In addition to the executive side of County government, certain services are provided through Constitutional officers and independent elected officials. These external offices are created by the Georgia Constitution or through state law. In Gwinnett, they include the Sheriff, Tax Commissioner, District Attorney, Solicitor, Probate Court Judge, and Chief Magistrate.
