Summary:

  • The Senior Locksmith/ClassifiedWaste Technician, JSC-NASA is primarily responsible for managing locks andkeys, installing and repairing locks, lock cores and locking devices, set andchange combinations of safes, fabricate and issue keys and maintain and repairsafes and vaults on JSC, Ellington Field and Sonny Carter Training Facility.

Duties and

Responsibilities:

  • Ensurerequirements are in compliance with all related federal, state, local and NASApolicies, procedures and regulations

  • Performemergency openings, set and change combinations of safes, fabricate and issuekeys, issue and control padlocks, along with maintaining work orderinformation.

  • Assistspersonnel and key custodians in conducting key audits

  • Maintaininventory of spare parts and components for all locksmith assignments andduties

  • Install,repair and re-key locks, cylinder cores, evaluate and repair door locks,fabricate and provide maintenance in a timely manner

  • Evaluate, maintain and repair safes, vaultsand cabinets

  • Maintainand safely operate tools and machinery in the Locksmith Shop

  • Install,repair, re-key, and fabricate keys for all locks and cylinder cores

  • Evaluate/repairsafes and vaults. Changecombinations when required

  • Coordinatewith maintenance and construction personnel to install new locks

  • OperateCodemax keying machine utilizing computer and applicable software to look upkey codes

  • Assumeduties of Classified Waste Pick-up, storage and oversight of thedestruction of sensitive and classified material

  • Completeall required reports, forms, and other documentation in accordance withestablished procedures in regards to Classified Waste

  • Otherduties as assigned

MinimumQualifications:
(Toperform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform eachessential duty satisfactorily.)

  • Three years of experience as alocksmith and ten or more years of bargaining authority from a CollectiveBargaining Agreement

  • Working knowledge of mechanicalcombination locks to include Sargent and Greenleaf, Diebold, Mosler and Simplix

  • Working Knowledge of all electroniccombination locks to include Sargent, Yaletronics, Locknetics and Codetronics

  • Working knowledge of pinningcylinders utilizing multi-master key systems and side bar cylinders to include

Primus, Schlage and Yale

  • Working knowledge ofrepairing/replacing Kaba Mas X-09 & X-10 safe locks

  • High School Diploma or GEDequivalent

  • Graduate of an accredited communitycollege and/or a combination of training, seminars, experience or educationthat provides knowledge required to perform tasking requirements

  • Must possess valid state driver'slicense

  • Must obtain and/or maintain aLocksmith certification from Associated Locksmiths of America

  • Must be able to obtain and maintaina DoD Secret clearance

Knowledge, Skillsand Abilities:

  • Musthave proficiency in a variety of computer software applications to include

Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook and NASA developed data systems

  • Skillin operating a personal computer and standard office equipment

  • Abilityto organize and prioritize work

  • Excellentinterpersonal skills
