The Palo Alto City Library is looking for a skilled and experienced cataloging librarian to serve as Senior Librarian in the Support Services Division.This positionwill be the primary cataloger forPACL andwillbe responsible formanaging and addingmaterials data to the library's catalog (Sierra ILS and
Bibliocommonsdiscovery layer);originalandcopy cataloging, including monitoring and staying current with OCLC, USMARC, RDA, LCSH, DDC, AACR2, andbibliographic formats and standards, and authority files.

Excellent organizational and time management skills
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
Ability to adapt to changing and evolving Library procedures,prioritiesand information technologies
Good knowledge of professional library theories,issuesand trends
Ability to problem-solve issues in cataloging
Good judgment based on logical reasoning and cataloging principles is necessary
Ability to consistently apply cataloging rules and standards
Must be able to work independently and be self-directed
Collection development experience
Essential Duties:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Performs original cataloging and classification efficientlyutilizingan on-line computerized cataloging system; assigns access points for materials;establishesnew bibliographic computer recordsin accordance withrecognized standards; handles special services such as transfers; monitors variety of selection maintenance activities.
Communicates cataloging decisions to staff; answers questions from staff regarding OPAC displays;monitorsthe quality of vendor-created records.
In consultation with the Division Headand Library ServicesManager,establishesand monitors selection fund accounts within the integrated library system;assiststhe DivisionHeadandLibrary Services Managerinallocatingthe annual materials budget; coordinates the activities of adult materials selectors; trains new selectors.
Develops, organizes, andmaintainsvariety of up-to-date collections (such as reference resource files and government document files) not cataloged in usual manner.
Assistswith recruitments, interviews, schedules, trains,initiatesand coordinates work of regular,temporaryand volunteer staff as assigned; assumes responsibility of unit.

Minimum Qualifications:
Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge, skills and abilities, which would typically be acquired through:
Master's Degree in Library and Information Science
Three years professional experience as a librarian. Master's degree in Library or Information Science may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previousoriginal and copy cataloging experience, or course work.
Experience with an online integrated librarysystemsand the OCLC system.
Bilingual skills preferred

Work in a library environment with the public; sustained posture in a standing, walking or seated position for prolonged periods of time; perform bending, lifting, crouching and pushing; perform repetitive small hand and arm motions for prolonged periods of time; may travel to other library facilities; exposed to computer screens for prolonged periods of time.
