This Senior Level Propulsion Engineer position will join the Propulsion team for work on advanced propulsion technology and integration. The successful candidate will have experience in multidisciplinary analysis and optimization, flight vehicle system performance, computational fluid dynamics, and air-breathing propulsion concepts and systems. This position also requires experience creating and validating new concepts, and novel design and analysis processes.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Shapes strategy and policy at an organizational level on all aspects of propulsion system, auxiliary power system and fuel system design, integration, testing and certification.

  • Works on unusually complex technical problems and provides solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious.

  • Leads multidisciplinary, multi-program or multi-system integration efforts to support propulsion design definition certification and validation.

  • Serves as organization spokesperson on advanced projects and programs.

  • Acts as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies.

  • Provides consultation across the business unit with regard to propulsion integration.

  • Identifies the need for new tools and processes.

  • Works under consultative direction.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in aerospace or mechanical engineering.

  • More than 5 years of aerospace industry experience within Propulsion Systems

  • More than 3 years of engineering leadership experience

  • More than 1 year of experience with hypersonic systems

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with the following:

  • Hypersonic or supersonic airframe-propulsion integration including design and engineering analysis

  • Turbine, ramjet, and scramjet engine cycles and cycle analysis

  • High-speed inlet design and analysis, including combined-cycle inlets

  • High-speed nozzle design and analysis including combined-cycle nozzles

  • Computational fluid dynamics applied to propulsion integration

  • Experience with turbine engine component design

  • Experience developing and presenting presentations to executive leadership

  • Experience with new business acquisition (to include leading customer-focused new business development and strategic investment initiatives)

Typical Education / Experience:

Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's 14 or more years' experience, Master's with 12 or more years' experience or PhD with 9 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

The E&P Department is responsible for the full spectrum of propulsion, warhead performance, fuzing, rocket motor ignition power sources, one-shot energetic initiation, and all other energetic systems technology. This position will provide engineering support and subcontractor technical oversite for solid rocket motor propulsion system production, design and process improvements as a Responsible Engineering Authority (REA). Note: This position can be a Salary Grade G08 (Sr. Mechanical Engineer) or a Salary Grade G09 (Sr. Mechanical Engineer II) based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position. The ideal candidate will: Apply or develop highly advanced technical technologies, scientific principles, theories and concepts to the systems integration of solid rocket motor propulsion, mechanical and electrical interfaces for integration into missile systems. Provide technical oversight to propulsion subcontractor(s) to define system requirements and work with them to ensure on time, on budget delivery of compliant hardware and documentation. Review designs, manufacturing processes and procedures and work directly with subcontractors to apply lean manufacturing and Design For Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) principals and techniques to the design and manufacturing of propulsion systems. Review manufacturing processes, uncover any issues associated with the propulsion systems and work directly with subcontractors to develop, validate and implement solutions. Review and disposition subcontract data and change requests; and oversee supplier operations. Update and maintain propulsion Technical Data Packages (TDPs). Work in a collaborative environment with program management and other disciplines in long-range program planning concerning obsolesce, product improvement and process improvement.
