Global Legal plays an important role in protecting the Group's reputation by helping to future-proof the organisation through robust legal risk and issue advisory. Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.
We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Legal Counsel.
Principal Responsibilities
As Senior Legal Counsel providing LRMA support for the legal teams across MEANT and ASP Regions, to assist and support the Head of LRMA (ASP and MENAT) to:
Key Accountabilities in this role:
Provide guidance on the institutionalization of the risk management framework and the management of Legal Risks across the ASP & MENAT regions, including support on complex issues arising or which have potential for significant impact
Be a trusted adviser in providing LRMA support for all lawyers across the ASP & MENAT regions, the Regional General Counsels for ASP & MENAT
Support the implementation of policies across the ASP & MENAT regions and globally across GBM/GCMB to ensure that the Group's exposure to global legal risks is managed appropriately
The jobholder assists the Head of LRMA (ASP and MEANT) to manage legal risks across the MENAT/ASP Regions in accordance with established policies and procedures. The diversity of HSBC's business, its geographic spread and the constant changes internally and externally means the diversity of matters which the jobholder is required to manage and advise on is very wide
The role requires an understanding of the structure of the HSBC Group and its culture and the ability to handle increasingly complex issues
The jobholder must also establish close mutually supportive working relationships with members of the LRMA team, other Heads of LRMA, the Regional General Counsels and wider leadership teams for MENAT and ASP, regional and global Op Risk and regional and global business and function CCOs
Works largely autonomously, but seeks management input on unusual situations, highly complex issues, and matters that may pose significant legal, financial and / or reputational risk to the company
The jobholder is responsible for providing subject matter expertise, advice, and guidance to HBUK, HBEU, GBM and GCMB legal departments, and other businesses and functions across the HBUK/HBEU regions and globally across GBM/GCMB on legal risk matters. The jobholder is also required to act as a liaison with Group Legal and is expected to contribute to the formulation and implementation of Group policy, procedures and practices relating to identifying and controlling legal risk
Requirements
Requirements
Qualified Lawyer with practical in-house legal experience
Experience in risk management
Good knowledge of the HSBC Group corporate structures, its business and personnel and a clear understanding of HSBC's corporate culture
Good organizational skills and ability to priorities
Good communication skills (both written and verbal) and strong inter-personal skills
Lateral thinking/problem solving
Language skills an advantage
