Summary of Responsibilities:
The Senior Legal Assistant will primarily provide the US Insurance Law Department with paralegal leadership for certain securities filings (corporate securities, product securities and mutual funds) and support the Legal Affairs Organization overall with a diverse range of support functions. The ideal candidate will have significant experience working at a large law firm or corporation in securities law with expertise working with the SEC and SEC electronic filing system (EDGAR) or experience with direct filing software. The ideal candidate will possess strong legal research skills and experience using a variety of research databases. A basic understanding of state insurance filings is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate would have knowledge of private placement offerings requiring Form D filings, drafting offering memoranda and/or any other relevant documentation.. The Senior Legal Assistant will be responsible for managing the Companys annual registration filings and working with various business partners ensuring tight deadlines and customer satisfaction is met.
Work closely with senior personnel, including the Vice President / Associate General Counsel supporting Retirement & Income Solutions and SEC Insurance Product Filings as well supporting other attorneys and senior level business partners.
Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team collaboratively to manage large projects, create efficiencies in existing processes and deliver reports to senior attorneys and management.
Support attorneys regarding legal issues of specific insurance products and financial instruments.
Excellent organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
Possess advanced technical skills (proficiency in Word, Excel, GEMS, eDocs, SharePoint, Outlook, Workshare Compare, Lexis/Nexis and/or WestLaw).
Detailed-oriented, strong judgment and interpersonal skills.
Attend and participate in huddles, events and meetings as required both with attorney groups and other legal assistant teams.
Field and respond to questions from business partners and escalate to attorneys as necessary.
Proven ability to learn new skills and systems quickly and teach others as necessary.
Self-starter, with strong individual and project management skills, able to work well both independently and in a team environment.
7+ years experience with securities filings and working with the SEC
Paralegal Certificate or Degree preferred.
Solid written and verbal skills and strong organizational skills.
Knowledge of US and state securities laws and reporting
Strong legal research and analytical skills.
