Job Summary

The Senior Lease Analyst will be responsible for all aspects of the Company's lease accounting and reporting in accordance with US GAAP, including lease identification and classification, the preparation of journal entries, reconciliation of rollforwards to the general ledger, and preparation of the annual lease footnote disclosures. In addition, this role will work directly with plant controllers and operations personnel to maintain the completeness and accuracy of the leases in the Company's lease accounting software. The Senior Lease Analyst will also be responsible for researching technical lease accounting matters, other ad hoc accounting projects and month end tasks, including account reconciliations, and assisting with the completion of quarterly and annual Census and Statistical Reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lease Administration: Communicate monthly with accounting and operation personnel to identify new, modified or terminated leases. Track and enter lease updates in LeaseQuery, the Company's lease accounting software, on a timely basis to maintain a complete repository of active lease contracts.

  • Lease Accounting: Review contracts to identify leases or embedded leases, perform the lease classification test and prepare the lease accounting, including supporting documentation of key inputs to facilitate review. Assist the Senior Director of Reporting with establishing the quarterly incremental borrowing rate. Research technical accounting matters in ASC 842, Leases, to identify the appropriate accounting treatment for new or complex matters.

  • Quarter Close: Ensure new, modified, or terminated leases are identified and entered in LeaseQuery to ensure the timely preparation of the lease journal entries for approximately 14 legal entities in North and South America. Prepare the right of use asset and lease liability rollforwards from LeaseQuery and reconcile to the general ledger. For any balance not properly reconciled, identify the cause and evaluate whether further adjustments are needed. Prepare and submit the final right of use asset and lease liability rollforwards in the account reconciliation software.

  • Lease Disclosures: Generate and reconcile lease disclosure reports from LeaseQuery and prepare the annual lease disclosure for the audited financial statements. Reconcile lease expense in the general ledger to LeaseQuery, including implementing process improvements with plant controllers and accounts payable to streamline how lease expense is recorded.

  • Internal Control & Audit: Participates in the audit process by preparing external audit requests including walkthroughs, rollforward schedules, lease transaction support, and coordinating requested documentation with departments and plant controllers. Assist in the maintenance of internal controls over the lease accounting process.

  • Census and Statistical Reporting: Create and complete templates for quarterly and annual Census and Statistical Reporting with corresponding support calculations for balance sheet and income statement line items. Develops new ad hoc reporting based on reporting requirements including legal entity level and operational activity. This position will assist other team members with completing all census and statistical reporting through the final submission process.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting

  • Minimum of three to five (3-5) years in a corporate accounting function at a large company (public or private) or public accounting firm with a strong emphasis on lease accounting

  • Strong organizational and time management skills in order to meet deadlines

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work across multiple geographic locations of the company

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze details and identify financial issues.

  • Team player capable of multi-tasking and providing results within deadlines.

  • Complete knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel, including proficiency in Vlookup and pivot table functions in order to analyze data as required

  • CPA preferred

Desired:

  • Proven ability to analyze and improve / streamline existing processes

  • Experience with LeaseQuery or other lease accounting software

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Navision or SAP ERP functionality (version ECC)

  • Experience with OneStream or other account reconciliation software

  • Background in developing and maintaining controls surrounding the general ledger and account reconciliation process
