Job Summary

Senior Landman position requiring minimal supervision, a strong proactive approach and utmost degree of independence, professionalism and dependability with advanced supervisory, leadership, negotiating, communication, organizational and attention to detail skills and a comprehensive understanding of land, legal and oil & gas industry principles, processes and procedures.


  • Determine title to prospective lands, availability for leasing and applicable regulatory guidelines, acquire interests in prospective lands by leasing directly from landowners or via negotiating agreements with industry competitors.

  • Advise lease records department of acquisitions and ensure the particulars of the acquired interests are accurately set up in the system for maintenance and accounting.

  • Either directly or through use and supervision of outside attorneys, perform whatever actions are reasonably necessary to confirm title and otherwise protect the Company's interest prior to commencement of drilling operations, including where necessary, obtaining title opinions for lands where wells are to be drilled and ensure that all necessary title curative is performed.

  • Negotiate, draft and consummate all necessary agreements with third party participants to ensure payment of costs and proper operation of wells.

  • Negotiate and enter into contracts related to the company's participation in wells drilled by other companies.

  • Advise and continually update Accounting and Division Order Departments of information necessary to ensure that all billable expenditures are proper billed out and collected.

  • Advise management and other departments of pertinent matters related to ownership of leases and drilling of well, i.e., who should receive information from wells, specific obligations contained in leases, etc.

  • Either directly or through the use and supervision of outside attorneys, obtain necessary regulatory orders and approvals relating to drilling or producing wells or forced acquisition of interests.

  • Provide attorneys with the information necessary for making applications in such regulatory matters and provide actual testimony in hearings.

  • Provide the Division Order Department information necessary to ensure proper distribution and collection of revenue attributable to initial production from wells, such as post-completion title confirmation and information, including division order title opinions where applicable and providing particulars of all pertinent contracts and agreements.

  • Be proactive in determining effective negotiating tactics and strategies, finding and developing prospective opportunities for Company participation and improving operating efficiencies and productivity.

  • Effectively communicate with management as to all matters in an easily understood format.

  • Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Land Management or Energy Management, Business Administration, Law or related discipline

  • Minimum of eight (8) years relevant experience with an active oil and gas exploration company.

  • AAPL Certified Petroleum Landman certification preferred.

  • An acceptable pre-employment background and drug test.

Responsible for negotiating terms and making recommendations regarding complex oil & gas agreements and supervising lease acquisition, title clearance, budgets, negotiations and lease surface needs. Responsible for lease, contract and division order ownership analysis, computerized mapping, complex projects in Land systems and data integrity analysis support for both surface and mineral estates. Will assign work and advice on technical issues, reviewing lower level Landman's work, and making recommendations regarding legal and financial obligations. Responsibilities * Responsible for acquisition, development, maintenance and divestiture of company's position regarding land (mineral, leasehold and surface. * Negotiates and writes contracts for exploration and development. * Collaborates with lease brokers to acquire leasehold interests. * Represents Company in state and/or federal proceedings relating to spacing units and/or bidding for leases. * Establishes, cultivates, and maintains relationships with industry competitors and regulatory agencies. * Coordinates activity of field landmen and title attorneys. * Coordinate and integrate various Land items related to permitting drill locations in multiple plays. Qualifications Education and Work Experience: * 12-15 years of oil and gas experience. * Must possess a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Business, Energy Management, or other related field. Preference given to advanced degree, M.B.A or Juris Doctorate. * RL or RPL a plus. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Title Evaluation Experience: searching/researching/examining all necessary land and contract data to understand and assure ownership. * Advanced knowledge and ability to draft written agreements. * Advanced knowledge of permitting, surface use agreements, environmental impact and restrictions and federal and state regulations and laws. * Capable of functioning effectively as a part of a team and working well with members of other disciplines and departments. * Able to identify key problem solving elements and apply knowledge and experience to solve moderately complex to complex problems. * Competent in responsibilities with thorough working knowledge of Land and it's components Physical Demands * The company will provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities. * Utilize multi-limb coordination and flexibility combined with control precision to perform fine motor skills including: finger manipulation, grasping, feeling, arm-hand steadiness, in order to push, pull or lift objects * Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. * Work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. * Utilizes multi-limb coordination to balance on even surfaces, stoop, kneel, stand, and walk, reach over shoulders or below the knees. * Must employ the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by the company's Environmental, Health, and Safety policies.
