Position Summary

The Landman 4, Senior Staff is responsible, with minimal to no supervision, to manage land activities, including the Company's leasehold, fee, and contractual interests, in assigned asset areas. Drafts and negotiates agreements incorporating input from internal stakeholders and outside companies. Demonstrates working knowledge and applying all petroleum land management and negotiation principles, theories, and concepts and demonstrates a working knowledge of interaction with Technical Teams, Accounting, Legal, and Marketing. Assists with the Company's acquisition and divestiture efforts as needed through negotiations, due diligence, or other matters, as requested. Works closely with and provides guidance to less experienced landmen to accomplish the Company's goals and business objectives and serves as a primary point of contact for third party operators.

Key Accountabilities

  • Works independently with minimal to no supervision and appropriately prioritizes work duties and assignments in line with the Company's values and goals.

  • Demonstrates expert knowledge of the Company's land position and related leases and contracts in assigned asset areas and their impact on obligations, asset development, and retention, and identifies and recommends strategic opportunities.

  • Effectively coordinates and collaborates with various departments and multi-disciplinary teams to support the Company's goals; maintains regular and consistently positive communication with all departments and Company personnel.

  • Directly coordinates and collaborates with Technical Teams, Regulatory and Business Development to ensure compliance with existing contracts and agreements; actively provides input and participation in various projects' decision-making process.

  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with the Company's lessors, landowners, royalty owners, working interest owners, counterparts at third party operators, and various public agencies to enhance business opportunities and Company's profile in the community.

  • Demonstrates expert knowledge of oil and gas industry contracts and is able to independently draft and negotiate fit for purpose industry exploration and production agreements (leases, joint operating agreements, farm-outs/farm-ins, pooling and unitization agreements, surface damage agreements, facilities use agreements, well allocation agreements, seismic agreements, rights of way, etc.)

  • Ensures Company's operations are conducted in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, and permits in the assigned asset areas.

  • Facilitates the drilling of new wells or the workover of existing wells by obtaining title clearance and ensuring contract/lease compliance.

  • Secures or causes to be secured certain title curative material related to title defects deemed to be critical prior to well drilling, recompletion, or workover activities and coordinates appropriately with Land Administration personnel.

  • Directs land brokers on all aspects of land work, including title research projects, lease check/acquisition projects, negotiations with landowners, etc.

  • Assists with community outreach efforts and public relations campaigns, as needed.

  • Provides litigation support, including reviewing declarations and similar litigation and discovery documents; provides information for pre-litigation preparation, including entitlement and operational information.

  • Mentors other Land personnel and reviews work performed by less experienced landmen.

  • Performs area ownership and competitor research and organizes data as directed.

  • Actively seeks ways to improve the efficiency of work processes and policies. Acts as a resource for co-workers and management.

  • Properly prioritizes work duties. Consistently seeks guidance from supervisors to learn duties and to ensure work product integrity.

  • Collaborates with both the operational and HSE team to effectively meet area and departmental HSE goals.

  • Complies with all health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, practices, and programs of the Company and actively collaborates with operational and HSE teams to promote and provide a safe work environment.

  • Participates in and adheres to all training programs designed to enhance HSE knowledge and safety standards and improve job performance.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Certificates, Licenses

  • Bachelor's Degree in Petroleum/Professional Land Management, Energy Management, Business or related field required.

  • Member of American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL) with CPL or RPL certification.

  • Member of the local petroleum landman association a plus.

Experience

  • Minimum of ten (10) years related to land experience, preferably with at least five (5) years' experience working as an in-house landman at an oil and gas exploration and production company.

  • Advanced in the research of digital and physical files.

  • Advanced knowledge of land/legal descriptions.

  • Advanced knowledge of the elements of the oil and gas lease and other oil and gas commercial agreements, including joint operating agreements and easements/rights-of-way.

  • Detailed knowledge of statutes and regulations affecting oil and gas operations, leasehold, and contractual ownership.

  • Detailed knowledge of mineral/royalty interests, title curative, title research, and due diligence.

  • Detailed knowledge of proper execution and recording of oil and gas documents.

  • Proficient knowledge of oil and gas, real property, and contract law.

  • Advanced understanding of oil and gas production activities and operations.

  • Advanced knowledge of ownership interest and acreage calculations.

  • Proficient knowledge of petroleum economics relative to existing assets and evaluation of new assets.

Desired:

  • California and/or Rockies experience.

  • Experience with P2 Land and ThoughtTrace software.

Work Environment

  • Primarily office work environment, with occasional visits to field.

  • Routine work involves common office activities during a typical 9-hour day, such as standing, sitting, walking, typing, and twisting as necessary.

  • May be required to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

  • Must follow all company safety policies, including when visiting field locations.

Compensation and Benefits

The pay range for this position in Texas is between $135,960 and $186,945 annually based on a full-time schedule. Please note that the annual salary information is a general guideline, and that annual salary will vary depending on your location and that Berry Corporation ("Berry") will consider factors such as (but not limited to) scope of responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considers when extending an offer. This position is eligible for short-term cash incentive bonus and long-term incentive awarded in restricted share units, excellent benefits including full health benefits, 401(k) with company match and immediate vesting, tuition reimbursement, 9/80 flex schedules, and generous paid time off.
