Overview
Are you an experienced equipment operator looking for a rewarding opportunity? Our Solid Waste Department is seeking a dedicated Senior Landfill Equipment Operator! We need someone to help maintain our landfill operations by placing, filling, compacting, and covering trash and solid waste.
This position works a standard 8-hour shift each weekday (Monday to Friday) and is scheduled to work every 4th Saturday. This rotation ensures coverage on weekends while maintaining a balance with regular weekdays.

Responsibilities
Specifically, this position:
Operates equipment such as compactor, dozer, road grader, articulated dump truck, and Excavator in a safe, efficient, and responsible manner
Manages the placement, spreading, and compaction of waste materials to enhance landfill space and ensure proper decomposition.
Follows all safety protocols and regulations to protect workers and equipment and ensure a safe working environment.
Performs daily inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs to ensure equipment is in good working order and to prevent downtime.
Helps landfill users and customers with unloading and directs them to the appropriate disposal areas.
Assists in the construction and preparation of new landfill cells, including excavation, lining, and installation of leachate and gas collection systems.

We are looking for a candidate who will:
Operate and maintain a variety of heavy power-driven equipment.
Use safe work practices and procedures.
Apply solid waste management practices.
Follow County policies and procedures pertaining to landfill facilities.
Operate the full range of landfill equipment in a highly skilled manner.
Perform routine maintenance on equipment.
Work weekends.
Travel to other Larimer County Solid waste sites.
Qualifications
All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.
Three (3) years of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.
High school diploma or GED required.
Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required
Possession of a valid CDL preferred.

We are currently in the process of building a new transfer station at the current site and we are building a new landfill north of Wellington. The new operations are tentative to be opened in Oct 2025-Jan 2026.
