Responsibilities

This senior II level IT generalist position will report into the Systems Engineering Solutions department, which is responsible for providing IT solutions to all Systems Engineering related disciplines within Missile Systems . The candidate will have primary duties in the support of various Systems Engineering tools and will be tasked with implementing new tools, capabilities, services, and automation to drive efficiency in the delivery of our services that result in improved Engineering execution. This individual will work across IT functions, Engineering and Program personnel to develop and prioritize tool road maps and upgrade schedules for supported tools in our unclassified, classified, and High Performance Computing (HPC) environments, and provide technical support of tools within those environments. The selected individual should be a self-starter with the ability to identify, plan, and implement tool automation as well as provide full cradle to grave governance, ownership, administration, and technical support of these tools. The candidate will also be expected to lead functional level projects related the improvement of processes and automation for engineering tool delivery, training, and support.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Partnering with Engineering to provide tool support in the capability areas of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), energetics modeling, design and analysis, with a strong emphasis on tool implementation across the various environments. Responsible for capability governance, deployment, problem resolution, automation, integration, customization, documentation, road mapping, and training coordination as needed

  • Implement and support tools in various HPC environments, which includes integration of the tools with supported HPC schedulers, developing template scripts with documented procedures for submitting jobs to the HPC resources, working with other parts of IT to ensure HPC hardware has the appropriate drivers and prerequisite resources to run the tools, and performing troubleshooting/technical support for the tools in the HPC environment

  • Provide cradle to grave support of engineering tools, which includes shepherding tools through the governance and approval process (including upgrades), working with the vendors to obtain budget estimates for new licenses and annual maintenance, understanding tool utilization required to make maintenance decisions, working with our engineering community to retire old and unneeded tools, obtaining/downloading installation media and licenses, and creating instructions or automation to deploy/install/upgrade tools in our environment

  • Collaborate with counterparts at other business units to help develop overall Raytheon solutions and ensure that RMS is able to leverage the value of these shared solutions

  • Provide technical guidance to management on engineering automation solutions and tool selection

  • Support enterprise and business initiatives, which may include leading projects, conducting tool trade studies, setting up tools in evaluation environments, coordinating enterprise tool deployments, support and training

Do you meet these minimum requirements?

  • BS with a major in Engineering, Computer Science, MIS or equivalent experience ( 8 additional years) or a related STEM or IT field and a minimum of 6 years of related hands on experience or a MS degree in IT or STEM field and 4 years of related experience

  • Experience and tenacity for solving challenging technical problems, and a desire to help others

  • Demonstrated experience in testing, troubleshooting, deployment and support of software applications in an enterprise environment

  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization, within a team environment and individually

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to articulate complex technical concepts in terms that can be understood by multiple audiences

  • Project management experience

  • Experience implementing new tools and processes in a business environment

  • Experience in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook), and the Windows based Operating Systems (Windows 7/10)

  • Must be able to obtain a clearance

Highly Desired Skills:

  • Working knowledge of Engineering software such as CFD++, CTH, Alegra, STARccm, Tecplot, Pointwise, and Fieldview

  • Automation experience using one or more of the following technologies/scripting languages: Bash, PERL, Python, Java, Powershell, AutoIT, Docker, Rundeck, and Chef

  • Linux and Windows system administration proficiency the following Operating Systems: RHEL 6 and newer, Windows 7 and newer, Windows Server 2012 and newer

  • Experience working with High Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure (schedulers, application integration, administration)

  • Computer Networking proficiency

  • Experience working with virtualization technology such as Docker and vmWare
