This role is an innovative thought leader and trusted advisor within the Engineering & Facilities arenas here at Smithfield. It oversees the partner relationships and all aspects of technology delivery and support for business primarily focused on assigned business partners, including overall responsibility for IT delivery and value realization.

Partners with Engineering Leadership to identify, prioritize, evaluate pursue various high value opportunities. Also partners to solution low cost/risk alternatives to current business challenges. Works with the business to confirm solution requirements. Leads end to end solution delivery, within time and budget constraints.

Works closely with their assigned business teams for planning, delivery and sustain of deployed solutions. Key capabilities will be the ability to work with/influence senior leaders, manage budgets and project deliver.

Core Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for serving as the strategic interface with assigned business units for the purpose of business/IT strategy development, solution discovery, service management, risk management and relationship management.

  • Serves as the business relationship linkage between the business units and IT, at multiple levels including the executive level.

  • Performs research, supports pilots, and investigates potential solutions to help anticipate the business needs and communicates solution recommendations that support business requirements to business partners

  • Participates in identifying, assessing and promoting the use of new technologies for increased productivity or new capabilities for the business.

  • Brings IT innovation -Smart Factory solutions- to the various Smithfield Engineering and Facilities departments

  • Proactively identifies opportunities (to leverage technology) to create business values or reduce manufacturing and operating costs

  • Drives technology and business process innovation within and across the organization beyond Engineering

  • Communicates decisions, priorities and relevant project information to appropriate levels of staff regarding business unit requests, projects and initiatives.

  • Proactively shares knowledge of technology risks and opportunities to build competitive advantage and improve efficiency and effectiveness of business units.

  • Focuses on strategic initiatives and plans, proactive, anticipatory and driving in nature and provides significant value to business units. Facilitates the planning and execution of business changes through the use of technology.

  • Manages business relationships and projects across teams, vendors and 3rd party providers

  • Oversees prioritization and delivery of solutions for area(s) of ownership ensuring value realization

  • Collaborates with the business to define the strategy for integrating/combining systems by providing a technology perspective, influencing and ensuring alignment of IT strategy with business strategy within the sub-function or region

  • Drives technology and business process innovation within particular business area to enable front line competitive position and manages a portfolio of services to address business needs within a sub-function or region

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Systems or related field and 10 or more years of experience in progressive IT related roles

  • Must possess knowledge of information and analytics

  • Project Management Certification desirable

  • Technical aptitude to understand and apply technology solutions to support business change

  • Conversant and abreast of the latest technological advances (Smart Factory Solutions) in the Engineering & Facilities Arenas

  • Possesses working knowledge of the most current financial modeling and forecasting tools/software

  • Experience with the Ignition platform is preferred

  • Had exposure or experience with business process optimization methodologies & approaches

  • Broad business applications experience preferably in the facilities and/or engineering areas

  • Orchestrate business solutions and foster digital transformation.

  • Working experience and knowledge of SAP preferred

  • Collaborates on shared solutions for the network

  • Create sets of requirements for individual solutions.

  • Proven project management experience working with mid-sized projects

  • People management and development experience

  • Strong communications, influencing and partnering skills

  • Ability to work with Vendors and Corporate partners on delivery execution and providing cost effective- high quality solutions

  • Ability to work with senior business leaders and executives

  • Ability to translate business needs to solutions

  • Ability to clearly present ideas and strategies to key business leadership members

  • Technical aptitude to understand and apply technology solutions to support business change

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Role is also responsibility for managing internal resources, contractors and outside vendors as business needs arise.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Occasionally required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms.

  • Regularly required to talk and hear.

  • Frequently required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.

  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Occasionally required to work in wet or humid conditions (non-weather); work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles.

  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Although the majority of the time work will be performed in an office environment, must be able to visit and comfortably work in a plant, warehouse, distribution center or other manufacturing facility.

This leader will influence and direct the overall assessment, maintenance, and upgrading of the current automation and control infrastructure. The Automation and Controls Engineering Manager will combine fundamental controls and process engineering knowledge with recent advances in automation, delivering creative solutions that solve real-world manufacturing problems. This person will work to locate external emerging and novel technologies and vet their performance to solve business needs. Core Responsibilities * Develops and implements the manufacturing vision, strategy/technology roadmap that supports the convergence of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) * Drives the right technology choices for automation and presents the technology roadmap for both immediate and long-term growth. * Combines deep process engineering understanding and machine learning capability to create scalable controls and manufacturing solutions. * Takes the business problems and derives to a technology solution that may encompass one or more products and services, ensuring it aligns with business objectives and fits into the technology roadmap of the organization. * Monitors and evaluates external technology trends that could impact the company.
