This position is with the Internal Auditing Unit located at Department of Corrections' Headquarters in Richmond, Virginia. As a member of the Internal Auditing Unit, the incumbent will provide Executive Management of the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) with independent and objective assurance and consulting services that are guided by a philosophy of adding value to improve the operations of the Department. Assists VADOC in accomplishing its objectives by bringing a systematic and disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the organization's risk management, control, and governance processes.
The Senior IT Auditor performs professional internal audits by planning and conducting audits of the Department's IT systems and environment. The primary work products are comprehensive audit working papers and final audit reports. Audits performed include IT Security audits in accordance with Commonwealth IT Security Standards, as well application, information processing, systems development, IT governance, and other audits to evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of IT controls within the Department. This position directs the activities of staff auditors on assigned audits, and works with the Audit Director to set priorities.
High school diploma or equivalent. A valid driver's license.
Experience in Accounting, Auditing, Information Technology/Information Systems, or Business Administration. In-depth knowledge of IT principles and processes. Extensive knowledge of IT security practices; IT risk and internal controls; and business process analysis.
Demonstrated ability to complete comprehensive, and at times complex, IT security audits. Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, and standards. Demonstrated ability to evaluate risks and formulate related audit objectives with initiative and creativity.
Demonstrated ability to utilize information systems to design and perform audit work. Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate effectively with all levels of management to include Executive Management, Wardens, Superintendents, Chief Probation Officers, and individuals or other Commonwealth and Federal entities. Demonstrated skill in using advanced personal computer applications such as spreadsheets, database packages, office automation software, the internet, and other software required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

Prefer Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with concentration in Information Technology/Information Systems, Business Administration, Accounting, Auditing, Business Management, a related field or equivalent applicable training and experience the indicates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and educational preference. Experience in Information Technology or Information Systems supporting a large organization with multiple and/or complex systems preferred. Prefer possession of or progression towards relevant, professional certification (e.g., CPA, CIA, CISA) obtained by examination or advanced degree.
