The Dallas Morning News is looking for the best investigations editor in the country to lead an award-winning group of talented journalists. We want an editor with impeccable news judgment who loves working alongside journalists to publish high-impact and revelatory journalism that The News is known for about shocking, unfair and unspeakable issues that will change laws and save lives.
In this role, you will work with reporters as well as the data editor and other data and multimedia journalists.

In this role, we want you to be eagerly engaged in every step of the news-gathering process with your team - from idea formation, to reporting, to data collection -- to ensure every aspect of the work is compelling: words, videos, photos, design and audience outreach.
As the investigations editor, you will be a go-to editor for editors and reporters across the newsroom seeking guidance and assistance on their enterprise work.
As you can see, it's crucial that you have the know-how to set strategy and elevate stories and ideas through coaching and editing.
This editor will report to the executive editor.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with reporters and others to Identify the most relevant and ambitious investigative stories.
Guide reporters to execute stories with the greatest degree of sophistication and refinement. Make complex sourcing decisions with the highest ethical standards.
Maintain rigor and excellence in story selection and framing. Bullet-proof the work at every stage.
Tell stories in the most innovative ways to expose new audiences to DMN investigations.
Foster a supportive, empathetic, diverse and inclusive work culture that furthers staff development and sets high expectations for achievement.
Job Requirements

Ten years or more of editing experience, including management and leadership of a team of reporters and editors.
A demonstrated record of revelatory, high-impact investigative or accountability reporting as an editor or reporter.
Experience telling stories through video, data, audio and other mediums.
The ability to bring clarity and insight to deeply complex subjects.
A deep understanding of the challenges inherent to investigative reporting, and how to rise above them. Knowledge of open records and libel laws.
Dynamic management skills, including a collegial, collaborative spirit and a strong and respectful communication style.
