Position Title: Senior Internal Auditor

Reports To: Assistant Chief Auditor

Direct Reports: N/A

Salary Grade: 9

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field; working knowledge of financial institution operations, policies and procedures

  • Working understanding of bank accounting principles

  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

  • Strong organizational skills, able to work independently with minimal supervision, and meet deadlines

  • Good written and verbal communications skills

  • Good understanding of human relations and the ability to maintain satisfactory relationships with all bank staff within the holding company. Must be able to assist in problem solving with all banks in the holding company.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret government regulations

  • Moderate overnight travel from base location to other sites within the United Community footprint to perform audit projects is required from time to time

  • Good computer and office equipment operation skills

  • Ability to follow through on questionable items or procedures

  • Participate in all required compliance training, including Bank Secrecy Act/anti-money laundering training, as well as internal and external training programs, online training, meetings, and seminars/conferences, etc.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan and organize internal audit assignments to determine the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls and systems of risk management, and efficiency of operations in the assigned business units, functions, or activities

  • Represent the Internal Audit Department in an advisory capacity in assisting business unit management in assessment of internal controls, procedures, systems, etc. as assigned by the ACA or CAE

  • Perform risk analysis, identify internal controls, and design and execute audit tests of controls and transactions in accordance with professional standards to determine the extent to which:

  • Assets are safeguarded

  • Policies, procedures, laws and regulations are complied with

  • Goals and objectives are achieved

  • Management information is reliable

  • Operations are effective and efficient.

  • Prepare complete audit work papers to support audit work performed and conclusions drawn for each area reviewed

  • Resolve review notes from supervisors' review of audit work papers

  • Prepare audit reports for management's review of exceptions and control deficiencies noted during the examination

  • Perform follow-up as necessary where significant exceptions were noted to confirm resolution of the audit findings

  • Use of personal computing software applications (MS Office) and other data processing tools (Navigator, Director, InSyte) in data analysis and organizing of supporting audit work papers

  • Recommend changes and improvement to audit procedures

  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in one or more functional areas as assigned by the CAE, and provide guidance and oversight to other auditors performing engagements in subject matter areas

  • Recommend, develop and implement audit policies and procedures

  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Audit Executive

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Professional certification in an audit related discipline (CPA, CIA, CBA, CRCM, or CISA) is desirable. All internal audit personnel should consider pursuit of professional certification and maintenance of continuing professional education as a professional goal

  • Working knowledge of consumer compliance and banking regulations and laws is a plus

  • Completion of Georgia Bankers Audit School or other internal audit training may be required as deemed necessary by the Chief Audit Executive

  • Work assignments may be in areas including, but not limited to: commercial and consumer lending; commercial operations; corporate accounting; human resources; funds management and liquidity; investments; bank operations; compliance; and capital markets. The successful candidate's specific assignments and base responsibilities will be determined by the candidate's educational background and prior work experience

Determination of candidate qualification for Staff and Senior Auditor positions will be dependent upon levels of knowledge and experience demonstrated by work history, professional development, and education.
