Essential Functions

The University of Texas Permian Basin welcomes applications for the Senior Instructional Designer (ID) position. Under the direction of the Instructional Design Manager, the Senior ID assists with developing and supporting online course (asynchronous, synchronous, hybrid, and hyflex) design and development using Canvas. This role will also collaborate with senior leadership to integrate instructional design initiatives into broader educational and institutional strategies for online courses, and develop and manage training for faculty and/or staff regarding instructional design, andragogy, and online education best practices.

1.Collaborate with faculty and the ID team to conceptualize, design, and implement innovative curriculum solutions that meet the evolving needs of higher education.

2.Drive innovative curriculum design initiatives by introducing new pedagogical approaches and integrating emerging instructional design trends, and technologies when collaborating with faculty.

3.Establishes and supports quality assurance processes (Quality Matters) to maintain high-quality instructional materials.

4.Conduct regular reviews and audits to maintain the highest level of instructional design excellence according to Quality Matters.

5.Integrates emerging technologies to enhance learning by staying informed about Canvas LMS's latest tools and platforms, and IT trends in higher education.

6.Recommend and implement technology solutions aligned with institutional goals to foster a modern learning environment.

7.Contributes to the team's professional development to ensure the institution benefits from a highly skilled and motivated instructional design workforce.

8.Offers project leadership for large-scale initiatives, establishing clear goals, monitoring progress, and providing guidance on course/project scope, timeline, materials, and evaluation methods to complete comprehensive learning and training programs.

Required Qualifications

1.Master's degree or 10 + years of related experience in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.

2.Teaching experience (online or face-to-face) within Higher Ed or K-12.

3.Knowledge of instructional design principles, learning theories, assessment and evaluation methods, and pedagogical approaches for online courses.

4.Proficiency in educational technology tools, learning management systems, multimedia content development, and a commitment to staying updated on emerging technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

1.Doctorate Degree in a related field such as Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or English.

2.Knowledge of ADA, 508, and applying that knowledge to online course development.

3.Ability to manage complex instructional design projects, adhere to timelines, and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

4.Provide updated information on curriculum development, learning theories, and pedagogical approaches, focusing on creating innovative and effective educational experiences.

5.Proven leadership experience, including team management, strategic planning, and the ability to provide mentorship to junior instructional designers.

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.

Standard Working Conditions

1.Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.

2.Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.

3.Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.

4.Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.

5.Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
