Your Opportunity

Our Aviation Group is seeking a Senior Inspector who will support the coordination and implementation of construction projects related to terminal construction at a major airport (IAH). Our Senior Inspector ensures projects adhere to all plans and regulations

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for coordinating, monitoring and reporting on daily construction activities.

  • Manage the inspection of Contractor's work for conformance to contract documents.

  • Read and interpret contract documents.

  • Responsible for maintaining as constructed drawings.

  • Coordinate on-site material testing.

  • Daily coordination with engineering, client, maintenance, and operations staff.

  • As needed, review and make recommendation on pay requisitions.

  • Must effectively communicate work schedule, activities, and work areas to coordinate appropriate closures of work areas.

  • Monitor and analyze contractors' work for compliance to schedule, budget, technical specifications and legal requirements.

  • Mentor and train junior staff/ inspectors.

  • Understand contract plans, specifications and budget and make recommendations for construction issues, and ensure it is completed in accordance with contract documents.

  • As needed, resolve design and field construction problems.

  • As needed, facilitate/lead progress meetings and report on project status.

  • Expedite design and field changes to drawings and specifications.

  • As needed, review contractor requests for change and when appropriate, assist in the preparation of contract change orders/modifications.

  • Work with safety lead and communicate and implement safety rules, policies and procedures in support of the safety vision and goals to contractors and subordinate personnel.

  • Examines field conditions as required to support development and completion of projects.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Technical expert in all relevant areas of construction, and understanding of various design and construction methods.

  • Self-motivated, with demonstrated written/verbal and communication skills.

  • Understanding of standard construction requirements.

  • Ability to solve field problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.

  • Effective leadership skills, taking initiative on tasks and delegating tasks to other team members.

  • Effectively communicates project issues with contractor, project team and clients.

  • Must have general computer skills and familiarity and working knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel.

  • May sometimes require working in inclement weather, working in a construction site, being exposed to heavy construction equipment, doing extensive walking/standing. Specific projects may require work near heavy construction equipment, construction sites, and airport runways and taxiways.

  • Work environment will require use of construction/inspection safety equipment and adherence to applicable safety protocol is required.

  • Current driver's license and ability to obtain airport security badge and pass required security background check

  • If needed, ability and willingness to work off-shifts, particularly overnight and on weekends for airport construction is required

Education and Experience

  • 20 years of validated inspection experience, or 10 years' experience degree in civil engineering or construction management or related field.

  • Previous experience with any of airports construction, FAA, or DOT projects required.

Is responsible for the conduct of enforcement investigations and preparation of final reports and recommendations on disposition. Conducts investigations of public complaints, congressional inquiries, and aircraft incidents and accidents. Evaluates training programs to insure that they meet the requirements of the Federal Aviation Regulations. Approves/disapproves designation of check airmen and makes recommendations on the appointment of designees. Is responsible for monitoring all phases of operations including: training programs and records; base and station facilities and route systems. Coordinates with and reviews reports from Geographic Inspectors and others to identify trends which indicate deterioration in the safety of operations. Directs or suggest changes required to correct such trends. The incumbent may be required to participate in the flight program as an aircrew member and, as such, must meet the medical and flight currency requirements as set forth in agency orders governing the operation of aircraft. The minimum eligibility requirements for this position are below or may be found on the following link: General Requirements for All Applicants: 1. Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years; 2. Valid State driver's license; 3. Fluency in the English language; 4. No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance; and 5. High school diploma or equivalent. Medical Requirements: Applicants must be physically able to perform the duties of the Aviation Safety Inspector position in a safe and efficient manner, with or without a reasonable accommodation. The minimum medical requirements include the following requirements: 1. Have good distant vision in each eye and be able to read, without strain, printed materials the size of typewritten characters (glasses and contact lenses permitted); 2. Have the ability to hear the conversational voice (hearing aid permitted); and 3. Not have any physical condition that would cause them to be a hazard to themselves or others that would interfere with their ability to fly as passengers in a variety of aircraft. In addition, applicants for positions that require participation in the operation of the aircraft must: 1. Possess a valid second - class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations; and 2. Pass recurrent medical examinations as prescribed by the FAA. Applicants not requiring valid second-class medical certificates who are tentatively selected will be required to: 1. Provide documentation from a board-certified physician certifying that they meet the minimal medical requirements; or 2. Applicants for Aviation Safety Inspector, Air Carrier (Operations) positions must meet all of the following requirements. 1. At least 1 year of pilot experience in multi-engine aircraft of more than 12,500 pounds maximum certificated takeoff weight. 2. Not more than 2 flying accidents during the last 5 years in which the applicant's pilot error was involved. 3. Professional flying skill as demonstrated in a simulator check to Airline Transport Pilot Standard. 4. Minimum 100 flight hours during the last 3 years. 5. Airline Transport Pilot Certificate or Commercial Pilot Certificate with instrument airplane rating. 6. Minimum 1,500 total flight hours. (Recency of specialized experience is waived for current FAA employees in the 1825 series, if applicable.) AND In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, applicants for the FG-13 level must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression (FG-12 or Pay Band H), as an Aviation Safety Inspector, Air Carrier (Operations) 1825. Examples of Specialized Experience include: * Monitoring activities of organizations to determine whether they are following authorized programs and evaluating proposals to change programs. * Planning and conducting inspections and surveillance of assigned areas of carrier operations to as sure compliance with Federal aviation regulations. * Principal contact with, and having responsibility for the certification, inspection, and surveillance of the flight operations of a group of aviation organizations. * Exercising certificate authority for flight operations over one or more air carriers that collectively employ a fleet of large aircraft powered by turbine or piston engines.
