JOB TITLE: Senior Infrastructure Engineer

LOCATION: 2 Broadway New York, NY

HOURS OF WORK: 9:00am-5:30pm (7.5 hours/day) or as required

This position is eligible for telework which is currently two days per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.

Summary:

This position designs, builds and maintains IT infrastructure and systems and provides technical guidance and support. This role implements and contributes to the development of strategies for the deployment, maintenance, and support of one or more components of the IT infrastructure. Responsibilities include ensuring the availability, scalability, and performance of IT systems. This role supports and coordinates the network infrastructure and collaborates with other IT teams to ensure the successful implementation of projects. This role troubleshoots problems and provides recommendations for improvement of existing systems. This role requires a thorough knowledge of Intune, SCCM, Azure cloud, OS imaging, GPO, PowerShell scripting, Operating System (OS), workstation and server hardware, software configuration, networking, cloud computing, and security, and experience with Windows, Linux, and virtualization.

Responsibilities:

  • Builds new components of the infrastructure within their domain (e.g., networking, storage) to meet requested needs or needs they may have identified, and in consideration of the current and future architecture. Adds new components to a roadmap, documents them effectively, and directs the testing and implementation of changes.

  • When provided with an objective to improve performance in their area(s) of technology, develops and implements action plans needed to effect the change.

  • Research new technologies/products and their impact on the infrastructure, prepares a preliminary evaluation of technologies/products and associated costs, and develops and presents recommendations to support anticipated future business needs.

  • Receives performance data and analyzes the performance of installed technologies. Proposes and implements any required changes, including identifying and planning for any resulting impacts on other technologies to optimize system availability and continuity.

  • Provides ongoing support and troubleshooting for issues escalated from more junior engineers on installed technical solutions to resolve immediate customer needs.

  • Provides technical leadership to project teams in their area of expertise and/or leads teams to complete projects specific to their area(s) of expertise to maximize and share learning.

  • Contributes to disaster recovery and contingency plans related to their area of the infrastructure, where applicable, to provide users with minimal interruptions in service.

  • Provides guidance and technical coaching to less experienced staff to support effective workflow and develop technical talent. Responsible for the review of solutions produced by lower-level Engineers, validating adherence to strategy and architecture standards.

  • Reviews and approves infrastructure proposals for appropriate use of technology, ensuring the efficient use of resources and smooth transition into production.

  • Installs, configures, and maintains the physical IT hardware infrastructure components of systems, servers, cloud, storage, routers, switches, firewalls, data centers and workstations.

  • Ensures the technical security of the IT infrastructure by setting up firewalls, managing access controls/operating systems/ database servers, configuring VPNs, and taking proactive measures against potential cyber threats. Follows security protocols and compliance with security standards, and handling of security incidents.

  • Installs, configures, and upgrades software applications, operating systems, databases, and utilities according to organizational requirements. Conducts regular monitoring of software components and tunes them for optimal performance. Identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves performance issues within the software environment, escalating more complex issues.

  • Implements local and wide-area networks (LAN and WAN), configures routers, and switches, and determines proper implementation of network cable and hardware requirements.

  • Travel may be required to other MTA locations or other external sites.

  • May need to work outside of normal work hours supporting 24/7 operations (i.e., evenings and weekends).

  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

  • Provides technical advice to project teams and mentors less experienced staff to foster talent development.

  • Observing the work performed by the contractor.

  • Reviewing invoices and approving them if the work has contractual standards.

  • Addressing performance issues with the contractor when possible.

  • Escalating issues to other parties as needed.

  • Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.

  • Adept knowledge of various software components, firmware, operating system, database servers, operations software (monitoring, backup, routing, job scheduling etc.)

  • Adept skills in network routing configuration and troubleshooting.

  • Adept in system administration tasks, including managing user permissions, maintaining system efficiency, and ensuring uptime.

  • Adept knowledge of current system usage trends and ability to forecast future needs, optimize capacity during scaling for complex project.

  • Perform regular maintenance and upgrade of SCCM application as per recommendations.

  • Build SQL query in SCCM/Intune and run reports for various data analysis.

  • Build Windows and MAC OS images and deploy via Intune and SCCM. Upgrade the OS to the newer version and deploy the security updates as required.

  • Manage Azure Virtual Desktop environment and provision the virtual machines to the users as requested.

  • Create, edit, and manage Group Policy Object (GPO) in Active Directory Services.

  • Create scripts with PowerShell and other scripting languages for automate the system process.

  • Build application/package in SCCM and deploy to the workstations as needed.

  • Troubleshoot in advance level on workstation to fix the issues.

  • Deploy Windows 11 via Intune and SCCM.
