The full salary range for the Senior Industrial Hygiene Specialist is $71,100.00 - $128,700.00 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is $71,100 - $99,900.

We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Additionally, this position is eligible for a hiring bonus. Under the general direction of the Industrial Hygiene Program Manager, the Senior Industrial Hygiene Specialist applies professional knowledge and expertise in the day to day management of various industrial hygiene programs, including (but not limited to): Respiratory Protection, Fume Hood and Local Exhaust Ventilation Testing, Asbestos bulk testing, air sampling, and project oversight, Lead testing, clearance sampling, and project oversite, Water Intrusion and Mold Response, Hearing Conservation, Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ), Substance Specific Exposure Monitoring, Industrial Hygiene Equipment Maintenance and Calibration, Hazardous Building Material Management, Silica, Building Ventilation Design Assessment, Wildfire Smoke/Air Quality.

The incumbent supports the campus comply with state and federal safety regulations and supports campus employees to ensure the campus is in accordance with applicable health, safety, and environmental laws, regulations, and good practice. This position will be responsible for managing the department's industrial hygiene equipment. This includes equipment calibration, maintenance, inventory, and cross-training other EH&S professionals on appropriate use and interpretation of sampling data.

The incumbent will routinely use equipment for personal and environmental monitoring/sampling needs, interpret results, and write reports to provide recommendations to reduce potential exposures to hazardous materials and conditions. This position will be responsible for overseeing campus respiratory protection requirements such as ensuring proper medical clearances are obtained, respirator training is provided, and the performance of qualitative and quantitative respiratory fit tests for employees and students. Operating within established program guidelines and parameters, the incumbent will play a key role in supporting campus fume hood and managing the process of local exhaust ventilation compliance testing, as well as providing assistance for fume hood commissioning and de-commissioning procedures.

This position will support industrial hygiene related indoor environmental quality and aerosol transmissible disease issues such as; responding to and investigating room ventilation issues, performance of IEQ and mold investigations, periodic vivarium ventilation assessments, and managing the EH&S air purifier rental program. Incumbent will perform routine job hazard analyses for employees conducting potentially hazardous operations and provide technical guidance pertaining to proper engineering and administrative controls, as well as personal protective equipment. This position will also support industrial hygiene related construction issues such as; the performance of dust monitoring during construction, evaluation of proper dust and hazard containment methods, and coordination with UCR project managers and outside consulting companies on routine construction related monitoring, inspections, and investigations.

Develops, implements, and monitors environmental and safety programs, systems, procedures, and training in one or more of the following fields: industrial hygiene, environmental health, pest control, occupational safety, ergonomics, laboratory safety, biosafety, controlled substances, environmental protection, fire safety, radiation safety, hazardous materials control and hazardous waste management (may include shipping).Drafts reports and other documentation, including use of relevant scientific data.Conducts sampling and/or monitoring related to field(s) of expertise.May oversee work of other technical staff.Performs outreach and communication to organization within relevant field.Performs technical work related to field(s) of expertise.Designs new and/or recommends improvements to existing processes and procedures.Monitors compliance and may serve as organization liaison with regulatory agencies.Inspects, investigates incidents and complaints, and recommends corrective action as needed.Provides training within several EH&S areas.Creates and adjusts methodologies to meet changing regulatory and scientific environment.Within specific field maintains knowledge/expertise on existing/proposed changes in all regulations; interprets and applies relevant laws, regulations, codes and standards, including making recommendations for work environment changes based on interpretations and principles of professional practices.Maintains all equipment/tools and media used for the purpose of lead and asbestos program management, mold and indoor air quality investigations, exposure assessments, respiratory protection and fume hood management, and other IH related functions. Maintains all necessary state certifications in order to perform duties.

Participates in the incident response system, responding as requested to after-hours incidents that require joint cooperation between Fire, Police, Facilities Services, EH&S, and other units. Works occasional evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays.

Thorough knowledge/understanding of specific EH&S field(s) including related laws and regulations; and general knowledge/understanding of all EH&S fields.Thorough knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting applicable local, state, and federal regulations and related standards and guidelines.Thorough written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen and skill to communicate effectively in a diverse environment.Strong analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize and manage the successful completion of projects within time and budget constraints.Strong skill to appropriately use technology and relevant scientific equipment as required.Skill to develop presentations and make computerized training programs

Ability to maintain accurate computerized records.Ability to take bulk, air, and wipe samples and maintain quality control when collecting, processing or reporting environmental samples.Ability to respond to asbestos, lead, indoor air quality, or health related emergencies after normal University business hours.Ability to conduct comprehensive hazardous material surveys including sample collection, material quantification, and coordination with appropriately certified laboratories for analysis.Ability to initiate and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and managers. Ability to work harmoniously and as a team player, thrive in a team-based environment, and skill in fostering teamwork among others.Skill in setting priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities.Writing skills sufficient to prepare clear, concise, logical, and grammatically correct technical reports, analysis, correspondence, etc. for management, faculty, staff and regulatory agencies.Working knowledge of the procedures and principles involved with asbestos, lead or environmental remediation.Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including a respirator and full coveralls.Ability to read blueprints and evaluate building ventilation systems
