Your Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

This position provides support to disease investigations by conducting interviews of patient in clinic and in the field. This position reports directly to the Program Administrator and works in conjunction with clinic staff.

  • Observes the ingestion of medications, (pre-bottled, single dose, labeled) in the clinic or field by Direct Observed Therapy (DOT).

  • Initiates contact investigation activities to diagnosed cases of communicable diseases.

  • Enter, track, and record data into HMS, the electronic medical record.

  • Actively attempts to locate lost or non-adherent clients by telephone, home visits and other field investigative activities. Initiates corrective actions to re-establish services.

  • Performs phlebotomy and collection of other specimens for laboratory testing and arranges with outsides/hospitals for pick-up and return of x-ray films as needed. Provide transportation via county vehicle for clients to the clinic for medical services as needed.

  • Provides education to clients and others about communicable diseases and related topics; other duties as required.

  • Attends clinical staff meetings, in-services, seminars and trainings for self-improvement, increased competency, and retention of skills. Participates in the orientation and staff development programs for persons assisting with client care. May oversee the work activities of ancillary personnel. Ensures timely completion of all mandatory training. Ensures accurate and timely submission of employee leave and attendance records, Employee Activity Records (EAR's), and travel vouchers. Performs other related duties.

  • Provides services as required during disasters and performs other related duties as required. Travel is performed in relation to above duties. Access to a personal vehicle and a current Florida Driver's License and Nursing License are essential to the performance of the duties described for this position.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Tuberculosis disease process and its implication on the community.

  • Knowledge of methods to obtain directions to locations.

  • Knowledge of medications, assessment for adverse effects of medications and emergency procedures.

  • Ability to spell correctly, use proper grammar and punctuation and to communicate effectively in documentation.

  • Ability to work well with others and work independently when needed.

  • Ability to conduct fact finding interviews, conduct health investigations, and maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to organize and adapt schedule work assignments.

  • Ability to perform venipuncture and tuberculin skin tests.

  • Ability to operate a computer, multi-line telephone system, copy machine, and fax machine.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Phlebotomy experience

  • Experience working within the area(s) of TB, STD, HIV, and/or family planning education for high-risk client(s).

Preferred:

  • Valid State of Florida driver's license

  • Valid State of Florida nursing license

  • Experience working with Electronic Health Records
