Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Human Resources Consultant for University Human Resources. This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Human Resources.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Provides consultative and strategic client service to the university community in human resources matters to include: consultation; policy advisement; change management and resolution; performance management; compensation and classification; recruitment and staffing; training and workplace assessment in accordance with applicable university, state, and federal regulations, processes, policies, procedures and collective bargaining agreements.

  • Identifies innovative, strategic and effective approaches to assist departments in establishing and meeting administrative goals and mission.

  • Provides assistance in the investigation and resolution of employee issues, and guidance on performance management and corrective action procedures.

  • Ensures compliance with contract provisions of staff unions, in consultation and collaboration with Labor Relations.

  • Participates in special projects to promote, support, strengthen and expand the strategic role and partnerships with clients.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The Assistant Vice Chancellor of Human Resources New Brunswick is a key strategic leader in the Chancellor's Cabinet that partners with the chancellor's office, schools, centers/institutes, administrative divisions, and auxiliary units. This role serves as a central point of contact for operational and business process matters related to human resources and payroll. This role is responsible for supporting units in the effective management of HR & Payroll processes and procedures across the campus, as well as serve as a resource to problem solve and provide guidance to campus constituents. The Assistant Vice Chancellor of Human Resources New Brunswick will work collaboratively and seamlessly with University Human Resources (UHR) to implement HR policies, services, and new initiatives across RU-New Brunswick. To be successful, the incumbent must demonstrate a fulsome understanding of the university mission, business needs, drivers, strategies, goals, and expectations of the units they support and provides thoughtful leadership and guidance on talent management and organizational effectiveness. The Assistant Vice Chancellor of Human Resources New Brunswick will deliver exceptional customer service, offer guidance on employee relations matters, liaise with UHR on policy and operational matters as appropriate, and provide accurate and timely administration of personnel policies and programs. This role will directly manage the human resource and payroll functions for the Chancellor's Office. Working effectively in a fast-paced environment, translating business needs and priorities into action through diligent project management and collaborative communications are key performance indicators for this position. The Assistant Vice Chancellor of Human Resources New Brunswick drives a culture of performance and talent management across the campus. The position will work closely with the Office of Labor Relations to manage the compliance with the applicable collective bargaining agreements, provide support and consultation on progressive discipline and labor disputes, as well as act as step 3 grievance hearing officer, when required.
