The UHC Medicare and Retirement Healthcare Economics team leads and influences decision making for the Medicare and Retirement line of business. As the Senior Healthcare Economics Analyst, you will be challenged to provide data-driven answers to the toughest problems facing the Medicare and Retirement line of business. The primary focus of the team is to identify, analyze, and explain medical trends. You will build and manipulate complex claims datasets to investigate root causes of medical trends. You will drive innovation by creating flexible, Excel-based models to support the ongoing identification of trend drivers and affordability opportunities. Ultimately, the goal of our team is to use data to build a narrative and influence key business decisions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Identify, analyze, and explain Medicare medical trends using claims-based analyses

  • Use SAS/SQL to construct claims-based datasets

  • Construct polished MS Excel models to satisfy analytical requests

  • Research healthcare topics, incorporate findings into data analyses

  • Provide ongoing, meaningful communications to managers on project status, results and conclusions from analyses

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 1+ years of applicable corporate or academic experience in data analytics that includes examining and summarizing data to uncover insights

  • Experience in the healthcare industry

  • Experience with SQL and/or SAS

  • Intermediate or higher level of proficiency with MS Excel (practical experience working with pivot tables, advanced formulas, graphs, vlookups)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Healthcare claims analytics

  • Team oriented and motivated to collaborate

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

  • Proactive problem-solving abilities

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $58,300 to $114,300 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
