As the Senior Healthcare Economics Analyst, you will design and develop reports and analyze data to measure clinical outcomes, network performance and methodology levers. You will investigate key business problems through quantitative analyses of utilization and health care costs data. Along with your team, you will identify potential areas for medical cost improvements and alternative pricing strategies. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide claims, premium, capitation and membership data in support of underwriting, Actuarial and utilization analyses

  • Identify potential areas for medical cost improvements and alternative pricing strategies

  • Create and update automated processes

  • Analyze reporting tools utilized by the internal customer groups

  • Produce and review reports specific to risk adjustments for various markets

Required Qualifications:

  • 3 years experience navigating databases

  • 3 years of work experience in a corporate setting

  • 2 years SQL experience including query experience

  • Intermediate or higher level of proficiency working with MS Excel (including formulas, calculations, charts, graphs, etc.)

  • Intermediate or higher level of proficiency in performing data analytics

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher

  • Health care experience

  • Experience working with claims or encounter data

  • Big Data experience

  • Oracle experience

  • QlikView experience

  • Ability to quickly learn and use computer software tools effectively

The Senior Healthcare Economics Consultant will proactively identify, communicate, and lead organizational dialogue related to healthcare cost/trend opportunities and risks throughout the organization. As a subject matter expert, the Senior Healthcare Economics Consultant will interpret and analyze clinical data from various sources and recommend best approaches to transform the healthcare industry. There's never been a better time to do your life's best work.(sm) Primary Responsibilities: * Lead and develop the analysis and interpretation of clinical program performance and medical cost trends * Lead and mentor a small team of analysts regarding analytical approach and best practices. * Understand and interpret key drivers of health care trends (i.e. medical cost trends, utilization, etc.), clinical program performance, and potential opportunities for medical cost reduction or program improvement. * Provide management with consultative advice and opinions regarding clinical program strategy * Build strong relationships within the organization including clinical, finance, product, actuarial/underwriting, and operations * Translate highly complex concepts in ways that can be understood by a variety of audiences including senior leaders You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in. Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in statistics, actuarial science, health services research, economics, or a related degree * 3 years of work experience in a healthcare industry * 3 years of analytical experience in financial analysis, healthcare economics, program evaluation, or related discipline utilizing highly complex healthcare data * 1 years leading, coaching, and/or mentoring analytic teams * At least basic knowledge of statistical methods, either from educational study or professional experience Preferred Qualifications: * Advanced degree * Experience with Medicare Advantage * Experience working with medical claims data * Proficiency in SAS for data manipulation and/or analysis * Proficiency working with formulas, calculations, charts, graphs in MS Excel * Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact collaboratively with internal customers across multiple departments and business segments * Strong verbal and written communication skills Careers at UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement.
