As a Senior Health Care Economics Consultant in the Product Analytics organization, you will help lead data-driven studies to tell the story of how Optum Behavioral Health and Medical Benefit Management products are making a difference. Your role will include developing study methods, analyzing complex data with statistical and visual techniques, and interpreting and presenting findings. You'll work closely with business leaders and other researchers to develop innovative analytic solutions to help Optum fulfill its mission.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and apply statistical methods to evaluate program performance

  • Identify and deploy appropriate analytic techniques to solve complex business problems and overcome measurement challenges

  • Build statistical and machine learning models to model outcomes and improve program performance

  • Perform analytic dataset creation and statistical modeling, and summarize results

  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand business needs, explain methods, and interpret findings

  • Manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet non-negotiable deadlines

  • Anticipate customer needs and proactively develop solutions to meet them

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Experience/proficiency with statistical techniques such as logistic regression, multivariate analysis, and linear modeling

  • 3 years of experience in health care analytics using large medical and pharmacy claims data sets to construct and execute statistically sound analyses

  • Advanced proficiency with SAS programming

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, time/project management, problem solving, organizational, and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or higher in Statistics, Public Health, Health Services Research, Social Sciences or related field highly preferred

  • Experience with R, Python, or similar

As a subject matter expert, you will interpret and analyze clinical data from various sources and recommend best approaches for its consolidation. Primary Responsibilities: * Development of data queries and extracts necessary for population health and network analytics data science initiatives * Interpret and analyze clinical data from various sources and recommend best approaches * Investigate key business problems through quantitative analyses of healthcare utilization and cost data * Provide analysis and summarize claims, provider, and membership data in support of affordability, trend and utilization analyses * Identify and resolve technical, operational and data problems * Perform root cause analysis to investigate sources of variations * Develop and review insightful analytical deliverables (e.g., dashboards, white papers, etc.) You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in. Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Actuarial Science, or similar concentration * 2 years of work experience in a corporate setting * 2 years of experience in statistical programming language and SQL query writing, with advanced level proficiency * At least an intermediate level of proficiency working with MS Excel including formulas, calculations, charts, graphs, etc. * 1 years of experience developing visualization dashboards Preferred Qualifications: * 2 years of experience in health care analytics and working with large data sets * 2 years of experience specifically with R, SAS, or Python Careers with Optum.
