Who We Are

The Common Hardware Group (CHG) delivers the silicon, optics, and hardware platforms for Cisco's core Switching, Routing and Wireless products. You may have heard of products within our portfolio such as the Nexus 9k switches, Catalyst Series routers, and Silicon One.

Our products account for approximately ¾ of Cisco's product revenue. With an employee count of ~1,900 across 14 countries, we design the networking hardware for Enterprises and Service Providers of various sizes, the Public Sector and Non-Profit Organizations across the world.

What You'll Do

We are the team that is designing a new class of innovative routers supporting the Internet for the future: Cisco 8000 Series routers. These are cloud-enhanced systems powered by groundbreaking Cisco Silicon One ASICs. These systems deliver the routing performance and functionality that scale to meet the needs of critical infrastructure.

In this role you will be designing hardware for the 8000 series routers to deliver the best quality and power efficiency using cutting edge SerDes technology at the highest bit rates possible. Your responsibilities will cover from hardware definition to design, and from qualification to product release. You'll be accountable for tasks such as:

  • Writing hardware specs and developing test plans.
  • Using Cadence/Allegro to capture schematics.
  • Bring up hardware with ASIC teams.
  • Debugging issues in the lab using analyzers and scopes.

Who You'll Work With

Collaborating with a team of experts on hardware design, you'll also work closely with other teams including manufacturing, software, product marketing, compliance, diagnostics, and vendors during the development of the product and to solve sophisticated problems along the way.

Who You Are

You possess outstanding communication, presentation, and writing skills as well as the ability to influence both technologists and business representatives yielding successful cross-functional dynamics.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or relevant degree and 7+ years of experience in system level development preferably in the server/computer/network industry.
  • Expertise in Ethernet, high speed SerDes (>10G) interfaces, high speed design, and signal integrity.
  • Experience in X86 or ARM architecture.
  • Experience with control interfaces such as PCIe, MDIO, SPI, I2C.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands on board design experience including with design tools such as Cadence Concept and Allegro.
  • Experience collaborating with other subject areas, including software, mechanical, and signal integrity.

This role requires on site design and lab work and therefore will require working out of our San Jose, CA office 5 days/week.

Why Cisco?

#WeAreCisco. We are all unique, but collectively we bring our talents to work as a team, to develop innovative technology and power a more inclusive, digital future for everyone. How do we do it? Well, for starters - with people like you!

Nearly every internet connection around the world touches Cisco. We're the Internet's optimists. Our technology makes sure the data traveling at light speed across connections does so securely, yet it's not what we make but what we make happen which marks us out. We're helping those who work in the health service to connect with patients and each other; schools, colleges, and universities to teach in even the most challenging of times. We're helping businesses of all shapes and sizes to connect with their employees and customers in new ways, providing people with access to the digital skills they need and connecting the most remote parts of the world - whether through 5G, or otherwise.

We tackle whatever challenges come our way. We have each other's backs, we recognize our accomplishments, and we grow together. We celebrate and support one another - from big and small things in life to big career moments. And giving back is in our DNA (we get 10 days off each year to do just that).

We know that powering an inclusive future starts with us. Because without diversity and a dedication to equality, there is no moving forward. Our 30 Inclusive Communities, that bring people together around commonalities or passions, are leading the way. Together we're committed to learning, listening, caring for our communities, whilst supporting the most vulnerable with a collective effort to make this world a better place either with technology, or through our actions.

So, you have colorful hair? Don't care. Tattoos? Show off your ink. Like polka dots? That's cool. Pop culture geek? Many of us are. Passion for technology and world changing? Be you, with us! #WeAreCisco

1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;

1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and once performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.
