Job Summary:

The Airborne RF Sensors department has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Air to Ground Mode System Engineer.

The Senior Air to Ground Modes Systems Engineer will possess career experience and demonstrate technical knowledge in radar algorithm/mode techniques associated with Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), Sea Surface Search/Track (SSS/T), and/or Ground Moving Target Indication (GMTI). Other desirable skills include familiarity with complex radar capabilities, such as active electronically scanned array (AESA) antennas, receiver/exciters (REXs), Electronic Protection (EP), radar digital signal processing electronics, pointing and stabilization measurement instruments, and control algorithms. Additionally, a robust System Engineering background with knowledge of radar architecture, requirements, modeling and simulation techniques, system analysis, and radar mode development is desired.

The Senior Air to Ground Modes Systems Engineer will work with the Lead System Engineer (LSE), Chief Engineer (CE) and IPTL (Integrated Product Team Lead) to establish program organization, schedule (IMS) and milestones, Planning Packages, Program Management Reports, and Performance Management Baselines.

This role is 100% On-Site and is based in El Segundo, California

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Achieve day-to-day objectives with major impact on operational results within work area.

  • Participate in IPT (Integrated Product Team) meetings to ensure success of product designs and engineering changes.

  • Develop mathematical algorithms for air-to-ground mode radar signal processing.

  • Computer modeling and simulation of sensor physics and phenomenology

  • Identify, analyze, and reconcile requirement differences across various airborne programs.

  • Collect data and perform the analysis of radar performance against multiple requirement specifications (Systems Specification, Software Requirements Specification, Interface Control Document)

  • Collect data and perform the analysis and resolution of critical program Problem Reports (PRs) and/or Software Change Requests (SCRs)

  • Performance predictions and analysis of data received from radars on various platforms.

  • Manage projects or processes within area of responsibility.

  • Work autonomously to complete the tasks assigned by the Integrated Product Team Lead and/or Lead System Engineer.

  • Provide guidance, feedback, and support to the mentees or other junior engineers.

  • Responsible for making moderate improvements of processes, systems, or products to enhance performance of work area.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in electrical, RF engineering, physics, mathematics, or related STEM discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience with specific experience in the following areas below:

  • RF and/or Radar systems

  • Signal processing, sea surface search/track, synthetic aperture radar, or ground moving target indication radar.

  • Radar and/or receiver systems design and integration

  • Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)software (Cameo & Rhapsody), Failure Reporting and Corrective Action Systems (FRACAS), DOORS, Agile, DevOps, scrum, software & languages (MATLAB, SysML, Python, Bash, C++, Java)

  • Present in written and oral forms to managers, peers, and customers

  • An active and current DoD US Security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in science in Electrical/RF Engineering

  • Integration and testing at the module and unit level

  • Special Test Equipment (STE) for test and operation

  • Signal processing, modeling, & simulation

  • Experience with integration of platform motion sensing data with mode processing algorithms for Motion Compensation techniques especially valuable

  • Work and collaborate with other non-collocated teams.

  • Assess information, problem-solve, and implement solutions.

  • Complex radar capabilities, such as active electronically scanned array (AESA) antennas, receiver/exciters (REXs), Electronic Protection (EP), radar digital signal processing electronics, pointing and stabilization measurement instruments, and control algorithms.

  • Mathematical problem-solving ability and data analysis experience

  • Work experience with one of the following areas related to radar systems: search or track, surveillance, reconnaissance, electronic protection, ID, or adaptive techniques.

  • An understanding of the physical limitations to implementing complex algorithms in real hardware

The salary range for this role is 85,000 USD - 179,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
