The Center for Urban and Regional Analysis (CURA), within the College of Arts and Sciences, seeks a Senior GIS Analyst to join our team. CURA engages in a diverse portfolio of data-intensive research projects focused on urban and regional issues, with a special emphasis on geospatial data science.

Many of our projects involve close collaboration with community partners in Central Ohio and beyond. The Senior GIS Analyst is responsible for managing these projects and ensuring that they have the necessary resources and provides direct supervision for the center's student research associates. The Senior GIS Analyst also helps to define the strategic direction of the organization and to identify and develop new project opportunities.

The Senior GIS Analyst participates in the design and execution of research; provides technical and administrative supervision for student research associates; assist with administration of data infrastructure and tools (data repositories, GIS network services); manages software version control repository (GitLab); participates in analysis and manuscript writing; engages with third-party data providers to acquire data; designs data schemas and databases; implements data pipelines using Python for ingestion, validation, transformation, integration, and analysis; publishes data in repositories; creates and applies metadata; performs various data management activities such as editing, format/schema conversion, cleaning, geocoding, and georeferencing; performs various analysis activities such as exploratory analysis, spatial analysis, temporal analysis, frequency analysis, network analysis, and statistical analysis; visualizes data using a variety of tools and techniques, including implementation of novel visualizations using custom software; refines and negotiates project requirements; develops cost and schedule estimates for scoped work; creates project plans and other project documentation; assigns work to and supervise graduate associates on projects; monitors project execution and ensures budget, schedule, and quality requirements are met; assists with timely distribution of quotes, invoices, and billing of established projects; creates and maintains project files (Microsoft Teams); participates in administrative meetings; contributes to the recruitment and hiring of student employees; assists new employees with onboarding; maintains the CURA timesheet system and ensures that all employees' timesheet records are up to date; completes and maintains all required administrative and research-specific training; keep the CURA office in good condition; support GRAs wishing to use their CURA work to satisfy course requirements (e.g. capstone projects, dissertation research); participate in project brainstorming, concept development, and scope-refinement efforts; contribute to proposal development and grant-writing efforts; with CURA leadership, helps identify and cultivates leads; participates in networking opportunities within the university and in the community; assists in the development of working relationships with potential clients and/or sponsors; develop partnerships with university and community partners and promote CURA's visibility and reputation by attending and presenting at conferences, participating in working groups, providing feedback on community plans, providing guest lectures for planning and/or GIS classes; assists the Outreach Coordinator with CURA communications and event planning; responds to occasional inquiries from university and community researchers about data, methods, and tools; other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geographic Information Science, Computer Science, or a related field. Experience in research involving geospatial analysis or data science is required, as well as experience using Python or R in this context. 4 years of relevant experience required.

Desired Qualifications:

Master's degree in a related field. Detailed understanding of urban and regional issues, as demonstrated by possession of a related degree, professional experience, or extensive personal engagement.

Supervisory experience is desired, with preference for supervision of students. Experience in a consulting service or similar is desired.

The pay range for this job profile is $73,100 - $97,500. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
