Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.
This position is located within the Transmission Integrity Management department within PG&E's Asset Management and Systems Operation (AM&SO) Organization. Gas Operations AM&SO is responsible for maintaining over 6,000 miles of gas transmission pipelines throughout California. This Department is responsible for the overall administration and implementation of the Transmission Integrity Management Program (TIMP) and the evaluation of overall risk to the gas transmission system. This includes overseeing the completion of integrity management assessments, identifying High Consequence Areas (HCA), maintaining PG&E's assessment plan as required by 49 CFR Subpart O, and managing PG&E's overall gas risk management program.
This Gas Technical Specialist position will work on a cross-functional team of Risk Engineers, Risk Analysts, Gas Technical Specialists, Data Scientists, Business Analysts and Program Managers to provide business intelligence support involving the use of GIS and database technology for the implementation of risk management duties for PG&E's approximately 7000 mile gas transmission system. This position will report to a Supervising Engineer of Risk Management within the gas transmission integrity management program, specifically Risk Assessment Planning. The Gas Technical Specialist is a key position within the TIMP team, providing technical support to help ensure PG&E maintains safe and reliable pipelines to help ensure PG&E maintains safe and reliable pipelines which comply with federal regulations.
Bachelor's Degree, in engineering, geography, cartography, planning, computer science, mathematics, or related field
Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on tool development
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook/Word/Excel
Utility or Pipeline industry experience
PODS data model experience
Integrity Management or Risk Management experience
Knowledge of 49 CFR Part 192
Certified GIS Professional
Proficiency in a programming language - Python, Visual Basic, etc.
Proficiency in Microsoft Access, Oracle, or SQL server databases
The primary responsibility of the Gas Technical Specialist is to provide GIS data automation, data analysis, data QA/QC, and technical support to the TIMP Working Assessment Plan (WAP). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Integrate, and convert data from various sources (including PODS) into GIS databases using python programming, SQL programming, and ESRI scripting tools
Respond to requests for GIS queries or maps for special projects
Provide user support with GIS tools / functionality
Develop and perform data gathering, data integration and quality control procedures for geospatial data, interface with data source systems to resolve issues
Create and update documentation for data management logic, software tools and related business processes for staff both in the office and in the field
Support the preparation of annual reports to FERC, (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission), SEC (Security and Exchange Commission), OPS (Office of Pipeline Safety) and CPUC (California Public Utilities Commission).
Support enterprise GIS data modeling and data capture initiatives as well as software functionality review
Assess and coordinate GIS software and hardware needs of the department, evaluate new GIS software and databases
Work collaboratively with other work groups and vendors, troubleshoot issues, produce technical communication
Continually identify opportunities for improvement in the way work is done, share expertise and lessons learned
