The Senior Game Concept Artist is an experienced game art professional, with extensive experience creating contemporary casual game artwork. This role provides visual design assistance across a variety of projects. Deliverables include style sheets, mood boards, 3D blockouts, concept art, and high-fidelity final art, as well as process guidelines and documentation. The candidate will possess a diverse skillset and be able to create best in class causal mobile artwork across a range of contemporary styles. This role reports to the Sr Director of Art for Big Fish Games and will work with various internal and external development teams. The ability to distill complex problems into simple, elegant solutions and communicate them visually is critical for this role. Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Research and generate visual design solutions that are right for the player. Produce delightful and engaging solutions that meet player and product needs.

  • Generate concept and final art solutions that are best in class, including but not limited to: rough sketch, mood boards, storyboards, flows, 3D blcokouts, animatics, to final game assets and high end marketing illustration

  • Rapidly adapt creative styles as needed while maintaining creative, technical, and brand standards

  • Efficiently produce art that is consistently appealing, delightful, fun, and just right for the casual mobile space.

  • Collaborate and communicate with art directors, user experience designers, game designers, and producers on multiple projects

  • Provide written and visual feedback to ensure visual design integrity across multiple game projects and teams

  • Deliver professional work that is organized and communicates clearly the intention and goals

  • Work with the Big Fish art director to champion process improvements, generate best practice standards, and evolve the craft of visual design across the company

Skills, experience and educational requirements:

  • An exceptional portfolio showcasing relevant game artwork across various products in various styles to demonstrate versatility

  • Portfolio must demonstrate a mastery of contemporary casual mobile game visual design

  • Portfolio must show the concept art process and workflow with multiple examples that show the development of an idea from sketch to final

  • Portfolio must show outstanding examples of character design and development, environment and prop artwork, as well as user interface examples

  • Portfolio must demonstrate an expert understanding of color theory, shape language, and 2D design principles including composition, value, and visual hierarchy

  • Possess excellent understanding of style guidelines, design processes, and creative workflow to maintain visual design consistency

  • Expert level skills with Photoshop

  • Proficient in Adobe After Effects, and a 3D package such as Maya/Blender/Zbrush

  • Familiarity with Unity

  • Motivated, and proactive. Independent, organized yet flexible, and able to prioritize effectively without losing sight of the big picture

  • Be laser focused on the needs of the project, understanding when a rough sketch or paintover will suffice, or when a more finished solution is needed

  • Be a humble art ninja- open and receptive to feedback from all disciplines, always focused on making the game better for the player

  • Be relentlessly curious- continuously learning, constantly seeking opportunities to experiment, fail fast, optimize workflows and foster open communication

  • Have solid experience developing mobile applications on both iPhone and Android devices.

  • Have a working knowledge of Unity, and 2D/3D art pipelines

  • Have a minimum of 6 years related work experience including proven expertise in new game or app development

  • Be constructive, proactive and forthright- with excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Possess a contemporary understanding of the mobile games industry and trends in visual design

  • Possess a passion for, and excitement around the mobile games space and the potential of the industry

  • Relentless desire for innovation while achieving business needs and meeting player motivations
