Senior Fixed and Variable Cost Analyst

Location:

Texas City, TX, USA

Role Synopsis:

This role is a key part of the site finance team ensuring the integrity of the P/L and Balance Sheet and partnering with management to provide meaningful analysis and forecasting.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Primary owner and an expert on plant reporting and analytics for month end close. Partner with cost center owners in monthly accruals, variance analysis, forecasting. Work with Commercial and Operations for forecast and annual plan. Prepare monthly summary analysis for site and business leadership.

  • Partner with production engineers to record monthly raw material and utility consumptions, calculate individual unit conversion costs, provide analysis of variances, and ensure all variable costs are recorded accurately. Ensure inventories are balanced monthly.

  • Support bill of materials, routing, and product costing in SAP, including formula and contract-ven prices.

  • Manage site service billings, including becoming familiar with term sheets and ensuring rebills and charges are in line with term sheets.

  • Produce journal entries and perform other closing activities.

  • Understand the Procure to Pay process and facilitate resolutions of bottlenecks with central team as needed.

  • Work with IT, manufacturing, commercial, and the rest of the finance team to simplify processes and lead continuous improvement projects. Ensure reports and processes are controlled.

  • Support government surveys, environmental reporting, ad hoc reporting, external audit, and any other activities.

  • Back up other members of the finance team.

  • Any other activities which may be assigned from time to time, such as cash flow, working capital analysis, capital project analysis.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, or Accounting or similar with minimum five years of relevant experience.

  • Cost accounting experience in refining or the chemicals industry is preferred.

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.

  • Experience with analyzing and explaining variances between budget and actuals. Able to gather information systematically and organize it to draw conclusions.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with operations, commercial, SHE, and management to seek information from others, resolve issues, and present information effectively.

  • Understands the value of procedures and controls.

  • Actively works to identify improvements.

  • Professional qualification (e.g. CMA, CSCA, CPA) is preferred.

  • Proficient in spreadsheets and MS Office

  • Experience with SAP FI-CO modules.
