The Opportunity

In this role, responsibilities will include, but not limited to: completing research involving procedures that need to be developed on a case by case situation; preparing specialized reports and analyses; implement new accounting principles, procedures and controls based upon GAAP or regulatory changes; and providing leadership and assistance to lower level accounting personnel. The successful candidate will have the ability to perform complex tasks requiring advanced professional experience, knowledge and competency in accounting principles and practices. They will possess the ability to utilize discretion and judgment on assignments that are varied, diverse and difficult in nature. Possess the ability to embrace, and meet, the changing needs of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Provides accounting guidance to business partners and management as needed, maintaining up to date knowledge of current accounting guidance and demonstrates the ability to determine how the guidance will affect the credit union

  • Works with the Accounting team and our business partners to implement new guidance as applicable

  • Performs tasks as assigned to ensure the month-end close process is performed in a timely and accurate manner

  • Works with our business partners to ensure accurate accounting for complex transactions such as hedging and derivatives and reverse repos

  • Analyzes financial information and summarizes results for management

  • Responsible for monthly financial reporting packages including financial statements and variance analysis

  • Prepares various committee and Board reporting packages

  • Prepares ad hoc financial reporting at the request of management

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual tax statements and filings

  • Certify all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis

  • Reviews and recommends modifications to procedures and process for continuous improvement

  • Develop and document business processes to ensure compliance with Credit Union accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance required

  • Four six years of accounting experience is required

  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting procedures

  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • Experience with hedging and derivatives a plus

  • Financial institution experience preferred

  • Certified Public Accountant preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to balance speed and accuracy in a fast paced work environment

  • Proactive approach to problem solving, demonstrating critical thinking skills. A self-starter with ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines

  • Excellent PC skills (Word, Project, Power Point, Access, etc.); advanced Excel skills

  • Working knowledge of Prologue financial and Blackline a plus

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills

  • Must be detail oriented and able to multi-task

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Discretion and judgment required in dealing with changing and new situations

  • Ability to be well organized, team-player and motivated

  • Flexible with working long hours when needed
