The Senior Financial Reporting Accountant is a comprehensive position that requires a solid understanding of all aspects of accounting and financial reporting and will be responsible for various financial reporting duties as outlined below, including supporting analysis, research and other accounting functions. This position will report directly to the Director of Financial reporting.

Critical Duties:

  • Assist in the preparation of public filings including: quarterly earnings releases and supplemental analyst packages, 10-Q's, the annual 10-K, 8-K's, Section 16 filings and registration statements.

  • Prepare the Company's consolidated financial statements on a monthly basis

  • Perform monthly closing of corporate entities, including balance sheet reconciliations

  • Analyze financial results and effectively communicate findings

  • Assist with XBRL tagging and EDGAR submission for SEC Forms

Essential Duties (other duties may be assigned):

  • Assist with the implementation of new or modifications of existing policies and procedures to make the financial reporting/consolidation process more effective, streamlined and efficient, and to conform to changes in accounting guidance

  • Prepare required PBC schedules for internal and external audit as needed

  • Understand and ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley and departmental policies and procedures

  • Effectively manage responsibilities to achieve timely and thorough completion

  • Develop the ability to understand the operational point of view in order to effectively review and research financial information

  • Provide other support to the Corporate and Financial Reporting team by assisting with or completing special projects and other periodically assigned duties

  • Work collaboratively with others within and outside of his or her function to achieve goals, simplify processes, and to ensure that work is completed accurately and timely

To be successful in this position, you should have the following education/experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required

  • Active CPA license preferred

  • Minimum 3-4 years related professional experience required

  • Public accounting and/or SEC Reporting role experience preferred

  • Hands on experience drafting Form 10-Q/K reports preferred

To be successful in this position, you should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP and strong understanding of accounting and financial reporting matters affecting public companies

  • Strong communication skills including writing and verbal

  • MS Office software, including advanced Excel skills

  • Financial reporting software such as Workiva a plus

Skill in:

  • Accounting software

  • Prioritizing work assignments

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and analytical skills

  • A motivated self-starter; strong problem solver

Ability to:

The Amherst Single Family Equity Division or Amherst Residential (AmRes) has raised more than $6b of capital in various ownership vehicles that currently own and operate ~22,000 homes in 23 different markets across the United States. Amherst Residential is seeking a self-motivated, autonomous, intellectual curious accounting professional to join the Accounting and Finance team as the Financial Reporting Manager. This position will have primary responsibility for the consolidation of AmRes GAAP financials, issuing year-end audited financial statements, generating internal management reports, and ensuring our BI reporting tools are in-sync with the results. The qualified candidate will also work closely with external auditors to manage the reporting and audit requirements to ensure timely completion. The position reports to the Senior Vice President Controller. Candidates should have strong business acumen, excellent communication and presentation skills, and the ability to work in an environment of change. Responsibilities: * Lead the preparation of consolidated external financial statements including full responsibility for completing the annual audited financial statements in coordination with the external audit firm. * Manage/review/assist team in preparation of consolidation, journal entries and supporting schedules for GAAP quarterly and annual closes. * Prepare the monthly internal management report for distribution to executive management and external monthly reporting package for investors and lenders. * Prepare quarterly partner/investor statements. * Oversee the Company's accounting function in Backstop. * Oversee the Company's accounting function in Adaptive. * Work closely with FPA group to analyze and explain financial actual results to forecast and budget. * Assume ownership of financial report structures for multiple entities and updating / changing where necessary (i.e. change in presentation, adding new accounts), and basic review and tie-out of system-generated statements. * Perform ad hoc research and analysis on any non-recurring transactions or technical accounting matters to determine appropriate accounting treatment and related financial statement disclosures. * Perform other duties as required/assigned by the SVP Controller and/or CFO.
