The Senior Financial Analyst assists the MMCM Budget and Analysis Manager in the support of the Administrative and Management Teams of Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento (MMCM) through the analysis and evaluation of the financial and operational performance of the business entities of MMCM. Responsibilities include leading in the development, analysis and preparation of the annual operating budgets for all business entities of MMCM and its Hospital Foundation. Provides support to Administration and MMCM directors and managers in the interpretation of their fixed and flexible budgets and monthly financial reports and analyses. Assists in the maintenance of the Decision Support System (TII/AS400), including standard costs and productivity standards, as well as the data interfaced to the system. Provides analytical support in the completion of special projects, development of long range planning forecasts and other projects requested by members of Administration and Management Teams of MMCM. Works to develop tools for the efficient distribution of timely, accurate and pertinent management data.
DEVELOPS, ANALYZES AND PREPARES THE ANNUAL OPERATING BUDGET
Using historical case and length of stay information from the Decision Support System, as well as MMCM Administration projections, develop patient day and case projections for the budget base.
Using financial data from the payroll and general ledger system as well as the Decision Support System, develop the departmental targets to pass out to the MMCM department directors and managers as a starting point for the budget base.
Works with department managers and directors, MMCM Administration and VALLEY REGION Finance to analyze and prepare final operating budgets for all MMCM business entities as well as the Hospital Foundation.
Works with VALLEY REGION Decision Support staff to prepare gross and net revenue budgets for the two acute care facilities of MMCM.
Responsible for loading the budget figures into the Decision Support System as well as the general ledger system once the budgets have been completed and approved.
WORKS WITH DEPARTMENT MANAGERS AND ADMINISTRATION TO ENSURE THE ACCURACY OF THE FINANCIAL DATA WITHIN A DEPARTMENT OR ENTITY.
Provides support to MMCM Administration and department directors and managers in the interpretation of their monthly fixed and flexible budgets and financial information.
Works with the MMCM Administration and department directors and managers as a liaison with General Accounting, Accounts Payable, Payroll and the CBO.
Monitors Fixed/Flexed Budget Variance reports, verifies proper revenue flow from CDM/MS4 to TII.
Notifies General Accounting of variances in revenue mapping between TII and Lawson.
Notifies General Accounting, Accounts Payable and/or Payroll of errors/corrections needed for accurate departmental financial statements.
SUPPORTS THE MMCM BUDGET AND ANALYSIS MANAGER, MMCM ADMINISTRATION AND OTHER TEAM MEMBERS BY DEVELOPING AND PERFORMING FINANCIAL ANALYSES, GENERATING REPORTS AND OTHER CUSTOMER REQUESTS.
Works both with the Budget and Analysis Team and independently with customers of the Budget and Analysis department, including MMCM Administration, Program Managers, Department Managers and other members of the SH-SSR management and Finance teams as well and Sutter Health System Office, in providing data, analysis and consulting services on financial analytical issues.
Demonstrates the ability to work independently, utilizing resources and contacts to obtain necessary information to complete tasks.
SUPPORT THE DSS TEAM IN THE MAINTENANCE OF THE DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM.
Works with other DSS Team Members to maintain TII, through data loads and reconciliation, table update, revenue and cost audits, etc.
Conducts data audits and reasonableness checks on a regular basis to ensure accuracy in reporting.

Education / Licensure / Certifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance - required.
Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) - preferred.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
Three (3) years or more experience in financial, operational and business analysis, computer modeling.
Experience in management of both large scale and multiple projects.
Seasoned experience in a large hospital/multi-entity setting strongly preferred.
Skills and Knowledge:
Sound, experienced based knowledge of managerial and general accounting principles and practices. Financial statement knowledge and interpretation required.
Knowledge of Patient Accounting and revenue cycle strongly preferred.
Extensive knowledge of hospital budgeting.
Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of products required, with emphasis in Excel, Access, and Word.
Experience with AS/400 file architecture and report writing (Seagate's Crystal Reports) preferred.
Experience in SQL, Visual Basic programming preferred.
Strong inter-personal, and verbal and written communication skills required.
