Overview and Responsibilities
Saint Mary's University of Minnesota is seeking to hire a Senior Financial Analyst on our Winona Campus location. The Senior Financial Analyst supports university budget and planning by assisting with the development and monitoring of the university's annual operating budget and developing and maintaining financial reports and analyses required to aid unit leaders in budget management and the development of initiatives. The Financial Analyst generates charts, graphs, and diagrams to illustrate trends, financial results, and projections for internal planning purposes. The Financial Analyst provides support for, and reports to, the Senior Director of Budgeting and Planning. Additional duties include assisting with account management, insurance claims management, and personnel budget model management.
Build out and maintain the university budget model under the direction of the Senior Director (Excel).
Draft documentation and instructions for the university budget model and related procedures.
Create, generate and maintain monthly financial reports and other analyses for unit level leaders (GP Dynamics).
Create and manage cost analysis and budget allocation models to align budgeting with policies and procedures.
Recommend actions by analyzing and interpreting data and making comparative analyses; study proposed changes in methods and materials.
Perform financial modeling, forecasting, reporting, and operational metrics tracking.
Develop charts, graphs, and presentations of data for communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Assist the Senior Director with insurance claims and renewals.
Assist the Senior Director with management of the university personnel budget model.
Assist the Senior Director with managing the university chart of accounts and budget model updates (GP Dynamics).
Performs other duties, as assigned.
Essential Skills and Functions
Advanced knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of fund accounting and budgeting.
Strong financial modeling and analysis skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
Superior computer skills, including MS Excel and PowerPoint.
Exemplary problem-solving skills coupled with the ability to analyze complex data.
High degree of initiative, self-direction, critical and creative thinking to manage, prioritize, and complete multiple complex projects, and exercise independent judgment.
Ability to convey complex financial information in an accessible way.
Ability to take direction and meet the needs of multiple stakeholders.
Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse constituencies.
Advanced interpersonal and communication skills including exercising a high-degree of diplomacy, discretion and confidentiality, and collaboration in dealing with constituencies at all levels.
Familiarity and comfort using enterprise Google Suite apps (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs/Sheets).
Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platforms, including budgeting and forecasting modules or software, preferably Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains (GP) and Microsoft Management Reporter.
Observes safety guidelines and follows safety procedures established by the university.
Qualifications
Experience and Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Experience in financial analysis, budgeting and planning is preferred.
May consider other acceptable equivalent combinations of training and experience.
