Discovery, Inc, the new global leader in real life entertainment with powerful brands such as Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, HGTV, Food Network, and Travel Channel, is searching for a Sr. Financial Analyst to support our affiliate sales team in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Distribution revenue is one of Discovery's largest revenue streams, rapidly evolving with market developments and one Discovery is investing significantly behind to grow. The role of the FP&A Affiliate Sales team is to understand, communicate and optimise performance of the different affiliate sales and broader distribution businesses within Discovery Networks. Whilst being part of the Finance Department, the FP&A Affiliate Sales team also works closely with affiliate sales teams, plus central operations and strategy teams. Reporting to the Manager, the Sr. Financial Analyst will play an integral role in monthly reporting and analysis for distribution activity.
What You'll Be Doing
Combine complex data from various sources into clear and presentable stories
Proactively identify and explore trends and inconsistencies in subscriber activity, revenue recognition, and other affiliate reporting
Analyse historical data to recognize and monitor relevant trends
Manage projects designed to provide enhanced narratives for management and support team efficiency
Produce ad hoc analysis to service interdepartmental customers
Develop and communicate independent insights to management
Participate in the development of financial reporting, budgeting and reforecast tools
Understand and actively use our BPC system and modeling tools to continuously improve reporting processes
Work with the accounting and billing teams to ensure all revenue streams reconcile
Ad-hoc responsibilities as required (e.g. support for forecasting and budgeting)
Manage departmental expenses for distribution team, including submission and tracking of invoices, journal entries, monthly reporting and planning
Read, interpret, and apply contract terms (must demonstrate clear, and supportable judgment)
Track Discovery's compliance with new and existing legal agreements
Articulate areas of specific concern, and recommend solutions to management
What You Need To Have
Bachelors in Accounting and/or Finance required
Minimum 3 years prior work experience (cable or media industry, preferred)
3-5 years relevant experience in financial planning and/or management accounting with a commercial focus
Must have the legal right to work in the United States
Proactive individual with a 'can do' attitude
Strong modelling experience, including building and developing strategy and operational models
Ambitious, keen to take on additional responsibility
Creative thinking team player able to both lead and participate in cross functional projects
Ability to meet stringent deadlines and work under pressure
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Exceptional experience with Microsoft Excel; including advanced formulas, pivot tables, formatting and modelling
Excellent attention to detail
Strong communication skills, verbal and written
Strives for continuous improvement

EPM10/BPC systems would be advantageous
SAP a benefit but not essential
Business Analytics experience a plus (Power BI, Tableau, Microstrategy, etc.)
