Carnegie Mellon University's Division of Student Affairs is searching for a Senior Financial Administrator. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing essential support by conducting detailed monthly analysis of accounts with report generation for directors and coordinators within the division's 20 departments. You will assist with day-to-day operational oversight in support of all departmental, divisional and university financial policies. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Finance for Student Affairs, and will work closely with all members of the Finance team as a department within Student Affairs' Business and Financial Operations.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Develop business processes to demonstrate departmental finances and track expenditures in preparation for Senior Financial Manager monthly meetings with directors and bi-annual financial reviews with the Vice President for Student Affairs. Generate and distribute monthly reports to assist departments in managing their account activity consistent with their budget allocations and to ensure timeliness and completeness of transactions. Conducts monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reconciliations. Performs reconciliation of program expenses and handles problem resolution of finances. Coordination of other financial related work, such as credit card reconciliation, expense report preparation, processing journal entries, and oversight and direction of records retention. Ensure compliance with all applicable university standards, policies, and requirements. Serve as part of the Division of Student Affairs Finance.

  • Work closely with staff in University Health Services to ensure accurate billing of services and fees to Student Health Insurance Provider and to student accounts. Responsible for accurate tracking of cost of goods sold and revenue earned from services provided. Responsible for completion of quarterly health insurance program reconciliation.

  • Professional development and other duties as assigned in service to the broader Carnegie Mellon community through committee work, etc.

You should demonstrate:

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills including ability to prioritize work and handle several tasks simultaneously

  • Ability to understand and follow university guidelines and provide guidance; ability to build and maintain accurate and detailed records

  • Ability to interact effectively with the campus community, students, and vendors

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting, or related business field required

  • 3-5 years experience in financial or accounting oversight preferably in an academic setting. Medical billing/insurance experience is preferred but not required. Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in different stages of development.

  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

  • Work Posture: This position is operating on a hybrid schedule, with an on-campus/in office presence two days a week.
