The Dean's Office within the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for a Senior Finance Generalist and Finance Generalist. The School of Engineering and Applied Science consists of 9 departments across the field of engineering. The school has seen tremendous growth in student population and faculty, as well as in its research expenditures in recent years. Reporting to the Senior Finance Associate, the Finance Generalist and Senior Finance Generalist will work closely with the Finance and Budget team as well as Dean's office areas.

Senior Finance Generalists perform a hybrid of complex finance work, encompassing a range of specialties, such as accounting, budget, payroll, purchasing, and financial analysis. Senior Finance Generalists assume more responsibilities that require deep analysis. They are distinguished by years of experience, depth of institutional knowledge, and sophistication of expertise. Work is conducted independently, and Senior Finance Generalists are responsible for training and mentoring emerging finance professionals.

Responsibilities:

Senior Finance Generalist responsibilities include the following, including, but not limited to:

• Perform annual rate analysis for revenue generating areas in the School

• Help lead Deans office budget development.

• Assist Deans office areas with performing quarterly variance analysis, and monthly tracking of budget vs actuals

• Manage Dean's Office funds at the Engineering Foundation

• Manage scholarship accounts in the Dean's Office, evaluating restrictions and available funds

• Assist as needed with account certifications, expense reports, and purchasing

This role will also:

• Monitor operating budgets, expenditures, endowment income and foundation budgets, and advise leadership of necessary transfers or divestments.

• Lead communication and financial training for implementation of financial practices and initiatives as well as help assess and align the School's budgeting activities.

• Produce financial and/or data analysis as needed as requested by the Dean's office.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $75,000-$85,000 commensurate with education and experience.

The Finance Generalist has responsibilities that are supportive of the Senior Finance Generalist and involve working closely with this role. Finance Generalist responsibilities include the following, including, not limited to:

• Coordinate purchases, ensuring that bills are paid promptly and in compliance with University requirements and resolve any discrepancies as needed.

• Process internal and external billings monthly.

• Enter payroll costing allocations and adjustments.

• Prepare account reconciliations following all financial and auditing procedures within the mandated timeframe. Verify that data entry, coding, and documentation are correct for each transaction.

• Manage listservs and assist with obtaining appropriate access

• Monitor suspense accounts each month, and act as needed

Anticipated Hiring Range: $55,000-$65,000 commensurate with education and experience.

Required Qualifications:

• Finance Generalist and Senior Finance Generalist: Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting

• Finance Generalist: 2 years of experience in a related field required. Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree.

• Senior Finance Generalist: 5 years of experience in a related field required. Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience using UBI and Workday

• Problem-solving skills and the ability to recognize when a problem should be escalated within the team.

• Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) experience with preference given to applicants with at least Intermediate-level skills in Excel.

• Experience interpreting and applying UVA and Commonwealth of Virginia policies and procedures, specifically those related to purchasing and reimbursements

• Experience managing change in a unit/department

• Creating managerial reports and presenting to leadership

• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
