Department Overview

The FSO (Field Service Organization) is responsible for supporting the implementation and maintenance of highly technical communications systems at customer locations throughout the State of AZ. Job tasks include but are not limited to: System Upgrades, deployment, optimization, and repair of infrastructure, public safety loggers, subscribers, microwave, computers, servers and network equipment. Our department works closely with customers, our system manager, engineers, our sales team, project managers, system technologists and service partners to accomplish the assigned tasks. Department is on call 24/7/365 to support mission critical systems for our public safety customers throughout the State of AZ.

Job Description

  • As you provide onsite and remote technical support of specialized communications systems and product applications, your public safety customers in the State of AZ will look to you as a trusted technical adviser. System upgrades, maintenance, optimization, testing and documentation of the complex communications systems throughout the territory will be your responsibility. You will also have the opportunity to use cutting edge and creative solutions to solve your customer's communications issues.

  • This position is a dedicated field service position that primarily covers the State of AZ and subject to provide support throughout Territory 7 (AZ,NV,UT,CO,WY,NM). Position will be based out of Phoenix, AZ and will provide occasional on-call coverage for the Lake Havasu and Flagstaff areas. It will require strong people skills to work closely with Motorola's customers and subcontractor (MSS) community, as well as Motorola sales, engineering, project management, customer service teams, and other 3rd party vendors.

Duties will also include:

  • Perform preventative maintenance routines to ensure proper system operation with focus on trend analysis and documentation of results.

  • Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered as part of system maintenance, upgrades or support issues

  • Identify and solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations

  • Stay familiar with the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques

  • Team with engineering, project management and sales personnel to develop creative solutions to exceed customer expectations

  • Demonstrate high level systems expertise and have a minimum of 6 years of related experience with the following equipment:

  • Various network backhaul technologies (T1, PTP, VPN, MPLS, MW, etc)

  • Computer IP Networks and Configuration

  • Have excellent skills in the use of various communications test equipment including:

  • Communication System Analyzers

  • Ethernet Link test sets

  • T1 Test Sets

  • TIMS (Transmission Impairment Measurement Set)

  • Digital RF Power Meter

  • The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills allowing them to build strong relationships with customers and their vendors, service partners, and other departments within Motorola

  • The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and self-managed to perform the required duties at a distance from direct supervision.

  • The ideal candidate will be capable of performing maintenance of server hardware/OS and software infrastructure and troubleshooting to resolve system/application related issues.

Additional Information:

  • Experience with logging recording systems, RF interfaces, wired/wireless communications systems and networking equipment

  • Unique combinations of both strong multi-site RF communications system and computer/networking skills are required.

  • Must have a current, valid driver's license and no traffic violations

  • Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customer

  • Must be able to work in an on call (24/7) rotation

Basic Requirements

  • Associates and 2+ years or 4+ years experience as a technician, field/system, IT, networking, RF, LMR or electronics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Travel to customer sites to install, repair, and perform preventative maintenance to customer's equipment * Follows all company policies and procedures as listed, but not limited to: warranty, safety, environmental, OSHA, DOT Hazmat, and ISO9000 * Operates material handling equipment per OSHA requirements * Maintains a safe, orderly, and clean working environment * Maintains records of performance reports * Interacts with all levels of people, both inside and outside the company * Develops and conducts training on the safe operations of the equipment and demonstrates skills to trainees, including both team members and customers * Provides a communication link between the customer and the company to help ensure that effective service is provided to the customer * Provides the highest quality of service possible in order to assure customer satisfaction * Generates substantial annual revenues * Functions without direct supervision * Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals * Completes compliance and job-specific training * Replaces defective parts, reassembles and repairs batteries and related equipment; Installs new equipment at customer's facility to ensure full functionality according to specifications * Provides on-site technical assistance to help troubleshoot and repair equipment * Completes timely reporting of all activities including service reports, expense reports, quality alerts and maintenance reports to the company * Is directly responsible for company assets, including a service vehicle, parts inventory, tools and test equipment Qualifications Minimum Qualifications * 4-6 years of previous customer service experience in field support * Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and the Internet * Basic mechanical aptitude * Previous experience working with hand and power tools * Able to read with comprehension and write documents (such as customer correspondences, memos, and reports) in English * Able to perform basic math such as add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals * Able to solve simple equations * Experience should be substantively in the Electrical related field * High School Diploma or equivalent Preferred Qualifications * Certificate/Diploma in Mechanical/Electronic/ Electrical or related if the application for location * A basic electrical understanding * The use of test equipment and reading schematics * Hands-on job experience * Experience should be substantively in the Electrical related field where applicable General Job Requirements * Must be able and willing to do overnight travel * Must be able and willing to operate a forklift. * This position requires you to drive a company vehicle.
