Job Summary

Under general direction, is responsible for performing complex casemanagement services that support a social services program focused onhigh-need individuals and families. Exercises functional supervision.

This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

  • 5:00 p.m., Monday

  • Friday; schedule may vary contingent on business needs

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs case management services, including reviewing and approving rental assistance applications, prioritizing individuals and families with the highest needs such as those related to individuals and families experiencing trauma, exposure to domestic violence and other at-risk factors impacting the well-being of children and families.

  • Engage in community outreach events to provide housing counseling and rental assistance to San Antonio residents.

  • Connect residents to emergency assistance and financial counseling to prevent homelessness.

  • Develop reporting documents as needed.

  • Meet all conditions to satisfy grant requirements.

  • Manages daily staffing activities and coordinates the daily caseload assignments to staff and manages the staff's daily and weekly productivity.

  • Trains and coaches staff on best practices in reviewing applications and housing assistance policy.

  • Collects data, maintains records, and supports compliance in all facets of applicable performance standards and state and federal regulations.

  • Analyzes data to ensure assist with daily department reports and council reports and prompt response to council requests.

  • Provides clients with additional resources along with their applications.

  • Maintain excellent case notes and client documentation in a data management system.

  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in social work or counseling from an accredited college or university program.

  • Three (3) years of experience in social work with individuals and families or related experience.

  • Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

  • Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.

  • Knowledge of social work theory, methodology and ethics.

  • Knowledge of cultural differences and sensitivity to the implications of culture for service delivery.

  • Ability to establish mutually respectful partnerships with families to enhance the quality of their lives and their communities by dealing with sensitive issues in a confidential, professional, and ethical manner Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs.

  • Ability to maintain good relationships with stakeholders (including current and potential clients, community, and co-workers), focusing on providing excellent and culturally sensitive customer service and presenting a positive image of the City in all community and stakeholder interactions.

  • Ability to respect and respond competently to the culture, traditions, lifestyle, language, and values of each family Ability to maintain a working environment which encourages mutual respect and congenial relationships between employees and is free from all forms of harassment.

  • Ability to utilize various learning techniques in the successful delivery of family and community support services.
