Job Description

The primary role of the Exploration Geologist is to support gold exploration programs at and near the Haile gold mine and in the eastern USA. Essential functions include:

  • Supports the Superintendent of Exploration in the definition, planning, and implementation of exploration programs to extend the Life of Mine (LOM) and increase resources and reserve base.

  • Oversee and contribute to geological work including core and RC chip logging, assist with drill logistics, sample collection, geologic mapping, geologic log review and reinterpretation, QAQC tracking and reporting, and other areas as needed

  • Oversee and contribute to 3D digital geologic models and generate interpretive sections and plan maps

  • Develop drill targets through conceptual geological understanding and applied deposit knowledge including interpretation of lithological, structural, mineralogical, geochemical, and geophysical data sets

  • Contributes to new conceptual ideas relating to structural evolution and gold body genesis, supporting research and development of new technologies.

  • Contribute to technical reports and reporting products for a variety of audiences

  • Demonstrates commitment to continuous improvement through contributing to the optimisation of systems, processes and practices, regularly reviewing and identifying new opportunities.

  • Oversee and contribute to robust QA/QC protocols to ensure the quality and integrity of data.

  • Act in accordance with and promote Company values and best practices

  • Supervise and mentor a team of geologists

  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or closely related field required, Master's degree preferred

  • 5-10 years of precious or base metal exploration experience

  • Competence with industry-standard modelling and database software preferred (i.e. Leapfrog, Vulcan, ArcGIS, acQuire)

  • Demonstrated interpretive geological skills using lithological, structural, geochemical, and geophysical data

  • Experience with core logging and mapping

  • Good understanding of mineralization models and geological processes

  • Understanding of economic parameters of mining operations and exploration projects

  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, community and environment

  • Must be able to legally work in the USA

  • Must possess a valid USA drivers' license

  • Fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear and see.

  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the workday.

  • Occasionally may be required to work early morning or evening hours to meet global organizational needs.

  • Work is in a surface mine plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.

  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine environment, including hart hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
