This position is assigned to provide administrative support to the Administrator for the Office of Legal Affairs, while maintaining confidentiality. Also provides general administrative support to the Office as directed by the Legal Affairs Administrator.
Responsible for supervising a General Office Assistant and Student Assistants. Assesses and refers incoming mail and telephone calls to appropriate staff; coordinates Administrator's calendar, travel arrangements and travel vouchers; serves as DIT Authorized Requestor/Coordinator, timekeeper, telephone system liaison; coordinates office equipment and supply needs; serves as Administrator's liaison to Legal Affairs managers and staff, other Department administrators and their staff and other agencies.
A flex/hybrid schedule is available for this position with 50% of the work to be performed in the office and 50% remote. Days in the office and days working remotely will be dependent upon supervisory approval. Remote work must be performed in Michigan.

Experience
Six years of administrative support experience where use of a personal computer to prepare correspondence, reports, charts, etc., or to enter/retrieve/update information is an essential part of the work, including three years equivalent to an advanced, 8-level, administrative support worker, Secretary E8, or Legal Secretary E8; two years equivalent to a Secretary 9, Legal Secretary 9, or Senior Executive Management Assistant 9; or, one year equivalent to the Division Head Legal Secretary 10 or Executive Secretary E10.Possession of an associate's degree in applied arts and sciences in an executive secretarial science curriculum may be substituted for one year as a Secretary 9.New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
