This position can sit in Westwood Ma., or Hartford CT.

Senior Estimator is responsible for developing estimates across the Eversource three-state area. Responsible for ensuring that detailed scope for major projects is identified and documented to support accurate and timely cost estimates. In addition, this position supports the evaluation of cost estimates vs. actual project costs, identifying process improvements to drive improved accuracy for cost estimates. Individual must collaborate with estimate stake holders which include System Planning, Engineering, Standards, Major Projects, Procurement, Siting, Environmental, etc. to ensure cost estimates consider the various risks and challenges experienced with constructing major projects in the electric industry.

Cost Estimating

  • Development of estimates for major projects (typically over $1M).

  • Support standardization of cost estimating templates across the three-state territory to ensure consistency and efficiency for developing cost estimates.

  • Develop strong collaboration with discipline engineering and support services to ensure accurate and complete cost estimates.

  • Identification and quantification of project risks and associated risk/contingency cost impacts and clarifications.

  • Ability to present estimates to mgmt. in the review process.

  • Utilize industry best practices for incorporating direct costs, indirect costs, support cost and overheads into project estimates.

  • Support cost estimating tools and databases to ensure estimates are well documented and updated based on project actuals.

  • Support process improvement program for tools and metrics to measure cost estimate accuracy, man-hour estimates to actuals, speed accuracy and cost to develop estimates, and ensure evolve estimate precision based on historical project estimates vs. actuals.

  • Support QA/QC measures to ensure coordination and process improvement with other stakeholders including Major Projects, Engineering, Operations, etc.

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Knowledge of transmission and substation power system planning, engineering, maintenance, and operations.

  • A combination of strong technical knowledge and business acumen.

  • Understanding of the Federal and New England Regulatory environment and the impact for the Transmission Business.

  • Ability to interpret and analyze financial documents.

  • Working knowledge of information technology and use of Eversource's office automation and information systems.

  • Ability to enhance internal and external customer satisfaction.

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to make formal presentations and translate technical information into terms that are meaningful to the audience.

  • Ability to develop and use collaborative relationships to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals.

  • Project Accounting System Knowledge (Power Plan FSSP)

  • Comprehensive Electric Industry Estimating Knowledge and Experience

  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word. Experience with an estimating system desirable.


  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering, project estimating, or similar is required. A focus in electrical engineering or estimating is preferred. An advanced degree Engineering or Business Administration is desirable.


  • Minimum of eight (8) years in the technical, operational, estimating or engineering aspects of the electrical utility/construction industry. Four (4) years' experience in one or more aspects of the job is required and transmission experience is strongly preferred.

This position acts as the subject matter expert for the development, implementation/oversight of all programs and policies related to the project management of T&D facilities. This position ensures the portfolio of projects is completed within established schedules, budgets, as well as for the adherence to all safety, system, construction, industrial standards, and specifications. This position also serves as the Project Manager on assigned complex or high-risk projects. Responsible for strategic planning and execution of projects from conception through completion. Essential Functions: * Selects and oversees development of Project Management (PM) staff. Develops a mindset of accountability for outcomes consistent to level of productivity and quality of work. * Manages performance by reviewing and evaluating work of project management team. Builds consensus, communicates performance measures, and expected performance levels. * Responsible to take the necessary action to see that the project management team's portfolio of projects is completed efficiently, on time and within the established budget. * Responsible for meeting goals, policies, plans, standards, performance objectives and budget for the portfolio of projects being managed by the PM team. * Ensures that all aspects of the projects are documented and completed in accordance with company policies, regulations, and laws. * Acts as the subject matter expert for the development, implementation, oversight of all programs, and policies related to the project management of electric system transmission, distribution and substation facilities. * Responsible to act as Project Manager on key high risk/highly complex projects. Will be responsible for executive level status report at work plan and other meetings. * Accountable for the planning and reporting of projects timeliness, and financial impacts to the company. Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications: Technical Knowledge/Skill: Requires extensive knowledge of electric transmission and distribution systems. Also requires knowledge of the construction industry and project management. Requires knowledge of federal, state and local laws regarding safety, construction and industrial regulations. Ability to use Microsoft Office applications and other systems for analysis and reporting. Education: Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, business, related discipline or equivalent experience. Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years of experience, including a minimum of five (5) years leadership role in transmission or distribution or related activities or equivalent. Demonstrated experience in working with construction contractors and managing large projects. Licenses & Certifications: Project Management Profession (PMP) desirable. Working Conditions: * Must be available to work emergency storm assignments as required. * Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary. * Perform occasional site visits in rights of ways, pre and post construction walk down of projects, and driving throughout Eversource territory. Work is also performed in an office environment which requires sitting, standing and general movement throughout the office area. Actively supports storm restoration efforts as assigned. * Work includes analyzing, consulting, designing, implementing, presenting, leading and coordinating.
