Management of Estimates for Projects
Responsible for cost analysis and estimate coordination.
Responsible for review of and development of trade takeoffs and internal pricing.
Responsible for evaluation of subcontract cost estimates, and proposals and oversight of estimating team.
Prepares and reviews preparation of self-perform estimates.
Reviews the project documents and understands the risk elements and addresses such for evaluation.
Develops subcontractor bidding strategy and prepares and oversees subcontractor solicitation during bidding process.
Reviews project documents for cost effectiveness and suggestions for value alternatives where applicable.
Ensures coordination with estimators and all trades during the development of estimates.
Responsible for reviewing and analyzing complex bills of materials, assessing labor productivity and labor costs, researching vendors, and understanding manufacturing and construction costs.
Performs productivity analysis of cost estimates, prepares contingency, escalation, and reconciliations for estimates; performs comparisons of scope, quantities and cost data between projects; prepares management presentations and develops an estimate basis.
Represents McCarthy to subcontractors through management of the estimating process, including solicitation of bids and constructability input.
Coordinates bid efforts, processing RFI's, and interfacing between bidding community on hard bid and negotiated projects.
Prepares qualifications and assumptions when needed on hard bid projects.
Manages all aspects of risk and defines such for the executive team.
Leads internal McCarthy estimate review and bid process team meetings.
Acts as "Bid Captain" on hard bid projects, particularly plans and specs design-bid-build projects.
Completes final assembly of estimate for presentation to owner.
Participation in Pre-Construction Process
Participates in constructability reviews.
Participates in quality reviews lead by the quality control/operations staff to address risk issues.
Conducts reviews of the project construction schedule and assists in preparation of the General Conditions and logistical cost items.
Aids field operations with change order pricing if needed.
Reviews the project construction schedule and assists in the preparation of the General Conditions.
Ensures a detailed and smooth "hand-off" from the bid team to the construction staff.
Industry Knowledge / Data / Management / Relationships
Updates pricing databases with latest cost history from current projects.
Builds relationships with subcontractors for future partnerships.
Attends industry events and represents McCarthy to the industry in a professional capacity.
Builds and maintains relationships with internal McCarthy clients.
Actively participates with the training and development of estimating department employees.
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering, and/or 5-10 years of equivalent experience required.
Proven experience managing for large scale projects with emphasis on highly complex industrial projects.
Able to manage the estimating of multiple projects concurrently.
In-depth knowledge of construction principles/practices required.
Experience dealing with subcontracts, subcontractors and/or self-perform work.
Experience leading successful team ventures, including development of employees and maintaining relationships with external entities and subcontractor community.
Self starter. Highly motivated to bring results and success to the projects he/she leads.
Ability to build trust and influence others internally and externally.
