Key Role Responsibilities

ESTIMATING FAMILY

  • CORE
  • Performs quantity survey of materials shown on project plans.

  • Reads and outlines project specifications.

  • Maintains an audit trail of the quantity survey from estimate to estimate.

  • Supports vendor/subcontractor pricing/bid solicitation and coordination.

  • Supports the distribution of plans and specifications to vendors/subcontractors.

  • Works collaboratively and creates relationships with a variety of stakeholders, such as project team members, subcontractors, vendors and clients.

  • Gains self-perform estimating experience.

  • Gains field operational exposure through onsite project support, as opportunities exist.

SENIOR ESTIMATING ENGINEER

In addition, this position will be responsible for the following:

  • Prepares components of more complex cost estimates for competitive bids and negotiated proposals.

  • Prepares material costs summary for quotes from vendors.

  • Assists with tracking value creation items from development through inclusion and documents in project documentation.

  • Develops scopes of work for specific trades and receives and analyzes subcontractor/vendor pricing. Provides on-the-job guidance to coworkers and willingly shares subject matter expertise in order to support team member learning and development.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner.

  • Communication skills, verbal and written.

  • Proficiency in MS Office.

  • Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications.

  • Proficiency in construction estimating software.

  • Proficiency in required construction technology.

  • Knowledge of the means and methods of construction management.

  • Ability to prepare quantity surveys.

  • Knowledge of specific trades and scopes of work.

  • Knowledge of Lean process and philosophy.

  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering or related field (Preferred).

  • In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

Experience

  • 2+ years construction experience.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes: Responsibilities: * Support project teams in the development and implementation of projects using the Georgia-Pacific Capital Project Work Processes * Provide engineering expertise to define scope of work, develop cost/ material estimate(s), design, and execute projects that lead to improved safety, quality, cost, and efficiency * Provide material take-offs/bill of materials to be used for estimating and scheduling purposes * Perform calculations and produce foundation, structural, building, and civil drawings to support the construction of plant facilities * Design and analyze steel structures based on project needs * Design and analyze concrete foundations based on load information supplied by OEM suppliers * Prepare/supervise the development of contract documents as required to include drawings and specifications * Coordinate and interface with Project Managers, Plant Personnel, and third-parties as necessary * Provide detailed analysis for technically challenging designs * Perform stress analysis and load evaluations of components * Perform design and evaluation of piping and/or equipment supports * Use economic thinking when evaluating equipment, vendors, and contractors * Provide expert advice relating to Civil Engineering matters * Participate in the Root Cause Analysis of major civil engineering problems What You Will Need: Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor of Science in Civil OR Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university * Minimum of fifteen (15) years of civil/structural engineering experience * Minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience with structural steel design and concrete foundation design * Willing and able to travel up to 40% * Understanding of Building codes and standards including ANSI, ASCE, ACI, AISC, IBC * Familiar with AUTOCAD What Will Put You Ahead? Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: * Structural emphasis including concrete, steel, structural, rotating element design and geotech * Proficiency in using various structural analysis software * Specific knowledge of building envelope (roofing, insulation, gravity and lateral load analysis) * Familiar with RAM Elements or RAM Structural IND-GP-ENG Salary and benefits commensurate with experience.
