Senior Estate Property Specialist

PER COUNTY RULES, THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR APPOINTMENT AT STEP 1, $53,643.20 annually.

July 2024 - 6.63% increase to base pay (2.75% Across-the-Board + 3.88% Market Inc.)

County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement in Accordance with Comp Ord 1.3.5.

Interviews will take place the week of April 29, 2024.

Job Offer will take place no later than the week of May 6, 2024.

The Health and Human Service Agency (HHSA), Public Administrator/Guardian office conducts official investigations into conservatorship matters, and serves as the legally appointed guardian for persons, who have been determined by the Courts to be incapable of caring for themselves. The Public Administrator is specifically responsible for investigating and overseeing the estates of persons to act as an administrator. The Office of the Public Administrator is responsible for protecting the property of decedents from waste, loss, theft and misappropriation; it ensures the estate is administrated according to the decedents wishes.

About the position

The Senior Estate Property Specialist will plan, direct, and coordinate the moving of personal property of estates, which has been placed in conservatorship and is under the protection of the Public Administrator/Guardian. This position will directly supervise County staff, as well as temporary staff and/or support staff.

The selected candidate will perform the following duties and assignments in this role:

  • Plans, directs, coordinates, assigns, trains, and evaluates the work of subordinate Estate Property Specialists, temporary helpers, and other support staff in locating, identifying, packing, and moving a variety of personal property and household goods.

  • Inventories personal property and goods and maintains control of property in warehouse.

  • Evaluates the worth or usability of items.

  • Plans, coordinates and schedules the moving of items with departmental staff, the public, contracted movers, and trucking and towing services.

  • Prepares property and household goods for sale or return to landlord.

  • Loads and operates truck, a 1-1/2 ton or larger.

  • Maintains County trucks and moving equipment.

Hiring And Timeline

Job Offer and Background Process begins after the job offer date. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.

Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.

Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least two (2) years of experience in locating, identifying, packing, moving, storing, and taking inventory of household, commercial, and industrial goods. Previous experience must have included one (1) year of experience supervising a work crew performing the duties listed above; OR,
  • One (1) year of experience as an Estate Property Specialist for the County of San Diego.

Condition of Employment

As part of the County of San Diego's pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
