The Chazen Companies is actively seeking a Senior Environmental Professional to join our dynamic and growing team of employees in our Natural Resource Science Department. In this role, the ideal candidate will contribute to our excellent reputation for producing high quality work products supporting various market sectors including utilities, watercourse design, term contract agencies, municipal practice as well as direct clients.

Do you have strong expertise in federal, state and local wetland regulations and delineation and permitting? Are you willing to share supervisory responsibility for field personnel on assigned projects, business development and client contact? The successful candidate will possess the following experience and qualifications:

  • Ability to work on concurrent assignments of multiple projects as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • BS, and MS or higher degree, in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biology, or a related field.

  • A demonstrated depth of knowledge of federal and state wetland permitting, and utility permitting with direct experience preparing permits, as well as providing QC and mentoring for staff who assist with permit preparations.

  • Experience delineating wetlands on complex sites.

  • Have existing relationships with regulator suitable to facilitate productive client outcomes.

  • Extensive knowledge of federal and state aquatic resource regulations, implementation and guidance, and an awareness of emerging regulatory trends and their implication for site design

  • Knowledge of other involved regulations (NYS SEQRA, NYS UPS, federal and state endangered species regulations, coastal zone, Historic Preservation regulations)

  • Familiarity with state and federally listed endangered/ threatened/ rare species (bog and Blanding turtles, rattlesnakes, northern cricket frogs, etc) in NY.

  • Experience with GIS, GPS, and Microsoft Products ( Outlook, Word, Excel)

  • Ability to travel to field sites locally and overnight as necessary.

  • Detail oriented, resourceful and self-motived with a strong work ethic

Additional skillsets of interest would include;

  • Expert witness/ litigation experience

  • Personal experience and contacts likely to help support business development opportunities

  • Familiarity with Environmental Management & Construction Plans ( Utility market EM & CP)

  • Stormwater management or monitoring training

  • Watercourse skills (HEC-RAS, shoreline design, climate change analysis, Rosgen training

The successful candidate must have and maintain a valid NYS driver's license.

This is a high-impact position where you will influence product strategy and decisions affecting millions of students through experimentation, statistical modelling, analysis and interpretation of results.
