Your Role at Baxter

The Senior Environmental Health & Safety specialist will be responsible for facilitating, the air, water, and waste Environmental compliance programs. The Sr EHS Specialist will focus 80% of their day in Enviromental tasks/procudres. Relevant regulations include Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, Stormwater Pollution Prevention, Petroleum Bulk Storage, etc. Experience with wastewater treatment plant operation is a plus. Although this employee will spend 80+% of their time managing environmental programs, a desire to learn basic OSHA standards is also critical. The employee must be comfortable partnering with other departments, such as manufacturing, production, facilities, and engineering sometimes as a project lead and sometimes, as team member.

What you'll be doing:

  • Work with Team Members on air, stormwater, wastewater, and hazardous waste projects.

  • Collect, analyze, record and report environmental data, and work with state agencies on environmental compliance and permitting issues.

  • Report monthly / annual company sustainability metrics (energy and water usage, waste volumes, air emissions, etc.).

  • Solve environmental problems relating to water and air pollution, waste disposal.

  • Independently work to continuously improve environmental programs to meet business goals.

  • Develop air emission estimates for industrial processes and related operations.

  • Assist EHS Manager with regulatory compliance.

  • Prepare supporting documentation and reports such as engineering calculations, regulatory compliance reports, SWPP Plans, DMR, SPCC Plans, Tier II reports, TRI reports, RMP, and air, water, and Large Quantity generator Hazardous waste reporting - reduction planning.

  • Assist the development and execution of the company's EH&S strategy.

  • Integrate corporate subject matter experts and or consultants when necessary and manage consultants.

  • Participate in corporate events and be the lead in implementing corporate, environmental program-based initiatives.

  • Support or lead the investigation of significant EH&S events, sharing learnings, and implement corrective and preventative actions.

  • Provide EH&S oversight to major capital projects.

  • Other tasks that are tightly or loosely related to EHS and are required by the business.

What you'll bring

  • BS degree in Environmental Health, Safety or related field required

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in Environmental, Health and Safety

  • WWTP experience is a plus.

  • Travel up to 5 % of the time is required.

  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 will be a requirement of the job, prior exposure is a big plus.

  • Safety programs can fill 20% of your time, possibly more at times.

  • Possess a passion not only for maintaining regulatory compliance, but also for being a good steward of the environment.

  • Be dependable, have solid critical thinking abilities and be comfortable with computer programs such as Microsoft Office

  • Possess, or be willing to pursue EHS certification/ training. (CSP, CHMM, RCRA, DOT, WWTP operator, etc.) within 2-5 years

  • Manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Be able to describe, during the interview process, direct experience with at least three major environmental programs and or reports. Examples could be: RCRA, Tier 2, Form R, SPDES, SWPP, Air Permitting, POTW, Water Withdrawal, etc.)

  • Be comfortable with basic math and Microsoft office.

  • Show comfort in working with a wide diversity of people in culture, educational, technical and vocational background, to a common goal of meeting both regulatory and company environmental goals.

  • Express a potential for leadership, be comfortable using influencing skills.

  • Exhibit the ability to describe and write complex issues/requirements clearly and concisely.

  • Be adept at, or willing to become proficient in incident investigation and root cause analysis.

  • Have an interest in Health and safety and be willing to spend ~10-20% of their time learning and applying OSHA safety programs.

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $80,000 - $110,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonus.
