We're looking for a Senior Environmental and Mechanical Engineer to join the CO+I team. This role is centered on leveraging nature-inspired solutions to enhance the environmental sustainability of our datacenters. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of advanced engineering expertise and a passion for nature-positive innovation to drive significant improvements in datacenter efficiency and impact. Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years related technical engineering experience

o OR Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related technical engineering experience

o OR Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experience

o OR Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field

o OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years professional experience implementing biomimetic solutions in industrial applications
  • 3+ years experience in project management demonstrating capability in leading complex projects from conception through implementation.
  • 3+ years experience focusing on biomimicry or nature-inspired design.
  • 1+ year experience managing cross-disciplinary teams.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated communication skills are essential for effectively collaborating with stakeholders and presenting complex technical information to non-technical audiences.

  • Professional certification in biomimicry

  • Proficiency in Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) software, simulation and modeling tools, and familiarity with current nature-integrated technologies and their applications

  • Experience with datacenter design and operations, especially projects that incorporate sustainable and energy-efficient innovations.

  • Demonstrated experience in the incubation and development of early-stage technological innovations, preferably within a corporate R&D or innovation lab setting.

  • Holder of one or more patents in the field of mechanical engineering or biomimicry, indicating a capacity for novel thinking and problem-solving.

  • Proven track record in leading sustainability initiatives and integrating eco-friendly solutions within large-scale projects.

  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams including biologists, environmental scientists, and other engineering disciplines to foster innovation and translate natural principles into practical applications.

  • Exceptional ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different levels of the organization.

Mechanical Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.

  • Technical Documentation: Create detailed documentation for all biomimetic engineering projects, including design specifications, testing procedures, and final outcomes. Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with stakeholders across the company to promote the benefits of biomimicry in datacenter operations. Present findings and progress to senior management to secure buy-in and funding for projects.

  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously seek opportunities to improve datacenter operations through feedback loops and new technologies. Lead efforts to update and refine biomimicry applications as new challenges and technologies emerge.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs and projects comply with local, national, and international regulations concerning datacenter operations and environmental impact where applicable.
