The Data Acquisition Strategy team is part of the larger Data Strategy group responsible for managing and maintaining effective data relationships with third party data vendors. The acquisition of data from third party vendors helps Cox Automotive product teams develop new or improve existing Cox Automotive software products for our dealers and our retail customers. The Senior Enterprise Data Strategy Manager is a new role focused on operationalizing an enterprise-focused Data Acquisition strategy for Cox Automotive. In this role, you will specifically assist with the strategic acquisition of data, working with teams across several Cox Automotive Business Units and a range of external data vendors.


  • Own strategic Data Acquisition across the enterprise, serving as a representative of the Enterprise Data Strategy team, developing expertise across Research, Negotiation, Financing, Contracting, and Vendor management

  • Support Enterprise Data Acquisition transformation initiatives focusing on: (1) Optimized data use, (2) Formalized policy and processes, and (3) Maximized relationships

  • Serve as champion of internal data assets and help product management teams leverage existing Cox Auto assets vs. procuring outside assets where feasible

  • Proactively identify and develop detailed plans, with ROI, for enterprise data acquisition opportunities. This includes identifying data duplication, or inefficient data usage to streamline and centralize the Data Acquisition process across Cox Automotive, while activating the data for more groups to use

  • Push to maximize savings through new or existing contract negotiations, ensuring the relevant data is still being used within Cox

  • Contribute to regular refreshes of the Data Acquisition Inventory, working in conjunction with the designated contacts in each Cox Auto business

  • Build relationships within product, engineering, and business teams at 5 of 19 Cox Automotive Business Units leveraging financial data. Understand their product goals and anticipate future data needs. Recognize opportunities for cross-Business Unit collaboration and data sharing

  • Work closely with team members in Enterprise Data Strategy focused on data partnership development, particularly with Finance vendors. As new partnerships are formed or existing partnerships are updated, stay apprised on new data sources available to business units

  • Lead end-to-end relationship management for 5 key vendors (out of 22 in 2021). Develop SME on Financing Data Category and build knowledge of relevant vendors capabilities, and relationships with Cox Automotive. Externally, seek out and build knowledge around additional vendors with RFx processes. Internally, serve as established SME on Financing data and provide guidance to product development organizations throughout the product development lifecycle.

  • Manage strategic relationships for ~100 contracts, in addition to agreements with key vendors, leveraging the Data Strategy Contract Repository. Proactively identify and develop strategy on agreements approaching auto-renewal

  • Build strong relationships with our working partners at Cox Strategic Sourcing & Procurement and Cox Auto Finance.

  • BA or BS Degree and 7 years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA/Masters Degree preferred

  • 1-5 years experience in industry: experience at a large, Data-driven organization, within Sourcing Strategy, Data Procurement/Acquisition, Business Strategy, or Data Governance is a plus

  • Proven track record of mastered execution and project management/organization skills to progress on several priorities simultaneously and track savings

  • Demonstrated advanced strategic and analytical skills and business acumen, evidenced by a proven track record in successfully developing and implementing impactful, practical business/data strategies that have been implemented successfully

  • Quantitative analytical skills to structure and explain the impact of changes to agreements or ROIs from negotiations

  • Excellent negotiation skills with a strong ability to influence.

  • Robust interpersonal and communication skills to effectively navigate complex relationships within a matrixed organization and negotiate with vendors

  • Strategic problem-solving to creatively assess vendor intent and drive to an optimal solution with the least number of iterations

  • Attention to detail, particularly when evaluating contract text, proposed fee structures, and other changes initiated by vendors

  • Passion for learning new information, and applying gained knowledge to relationships

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
