The Senior Engineering Manager demonstrates leadership in support of medical device components developed and manufactured to exceed customer expectations. This role acts as an influential manager within a matrix organization to a team of skilled engineers, technicians, and assemblers in an operations team setting; and provides strong cross functional leadership to realize new products, manage talent, drive DRM (design for reliability and manufacturing), design expertise, and development productivity. This individual will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to guide their operations team on issues related to the design, process development, and deployment of mission-critical components.
A Day in the Life:
Set clear objectives, evaluate progress against objectives, and instill performance-oriented culture with a focus on accountability.
Provide resource allocation guidance to the engineering group through analysis of current and future workload and skill availability.
Assure the integration of Design for Reliability and Manufacturability into engineering projects through coaching, training and practice.
Emphasize a proactive approach to achieve optimal manufacturing targets prior to high volume production
Partner with research and technology to ensure technologies are capable prior to transfer to development.
Actively participate in operations strategic planning to assure alignment with strategic business direction and review voice of the customer data
Ensure functional standards and procedures are followed
Review project specifications, resource estimates and scheduling.
Prioritize technical development activities with stakeholders based on strategic and tactical importance to the organization.
Leading organization of 24 manufacturing engineers and technicians
Develop key strategies to develop quality and yield improvements in the value stream
Developing an innovative, career development focused, team with high level of ownership of the manufacturing line.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Plans, directs and implements all aspects of the company's design and development of new medical device products or software systems.
May develop, evaluate, implement and maintain technical quality assurance and control systems or reliability systems and standards pertaining to materials, techniques, or company products.
Oversees the investigation and evaluation of existing technologies.
Guides the conceptualization of new methodologies, materials, machines, processes or products.
Directs the development of new concepts from initial design to market release.
Manages feasibility studies of the design to determine if capable of functioning as intended.
Monitors documentation maintenance throughout all phases of research and development.
Organizes the coordination of activities with outside suppliers and consultants to ensure timely delivery.
Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
BS in an Engineering discipline
Minimum 5-7+years of experience with product development and/or manufacturing engineering.
5+ years of experience managing people
Track record of developing and implementing broad improvement initiatives
Demonstrated communication skills, both verbal and written
Nice to Have:
Experience and working knowledge of FDA regulations/ISO standards for medical devices
Advanced degree preferred, MBA
Demonstrated ability to work in a matrix organization and positively influence strategies and outcomes.
Experience as a professional in development and/or systems position(s).
Strong background in engineering discipline
Background in people management in operations
